Statesboro Campus 1332 Southern Drive Statesboro, GA 30458 Department Information Within this setting, the faculty hire will support developing interdisciplinary doctoral programs being developed in the College of Science and Mathematics as well as potential programs in Applied Mathematics, Biostatistics, or Statistics. With expertise in applications to environmental science, data science, or bioinformatics preferred, the new hire will also support student success with statistics and mathematics majors. The Department of Mathematical Sciences is working to modernize its curriculum, moving toward a career-oriented program designed for interdisciplinary fields. Georgia Southern University provides faculty and student access to the Quantum computing information and technology and Talon High Performance Computing (HPC) Research Cluster, with various software to process data and perform complex computations via classical and neural networks. Job Summary Reporting to the department chair, the Assistant Professor position requires excellence in teaching with classroom instructional load as assigned by the Department Chair; advising graduate/undergraduate students; research to be published in academic journals; regular applications for external funding; and service to the department, college, and university at a level consistent with workload. The position is a tenure-track academic year (10 month) appointment. Required Qualifications Earned Ph.D in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Applied Mathematics or Statistics, by August 1, 2025. Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives. Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development. Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline. Preferred Qualifications Postdoctoral experience at an accredited university or institution Expertise in applications to environmental science, data science, or bioinformatics Proposed Salary Commensurate with experience. This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
