Summary of Job

The Materials Manager based in Pregis' Plymouth, IN facility is a key leader within the plant, responsible for the materials management function, including the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution, of materials and products to meet Pregis objectives and customer requirements in a safe and timely manner. The Materials Manager is responsible for direction and administration of Plant Purchasing, Production Scheduling, Inventory Control, Shipping, Receiving, and Warehousing functions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Leadership:



  • Set the tone for department culture, with emphasis on Safety, Quality, Profitability, and people development. Model the right behavior though actions.
  • Attract, retain, develop, and mentor key talent within the plant.
  • Lead and mentor Shipping, Warehousing, Purchasing, and Scheduling team to high performance and professional growth.
  • Maintain housekeeping in warehouse and shipping areas.
  • Participate in MDI (Managing for Daily Improvement) meetings and ensure timely and accurate communication of information relevant to department.
  • Oversee production planning and scheduling programs to meet sales forecasts and balance level of manpower and equipment/machine requirements while minimizing excess material carrying and overhead costs.
  • Ensure all material and inventory tasks are completed in a timely and safe manner.



Safety



  • Through implementation of the Pregis Production System, 7 Elements of Safety program, partner with the rest of the site to drive and sustain a world class safety culture.



Quality



  • Fully support the Pregis Production System Quality Management System.
  • Manage investigations and resolve problems from material shortages, damage, or overages.
  • Review Logistics based quality complaints and determine root causes/corrective actions. Ensure root causes are addressed.



Customer Focus



  • Ensure optimal inventory levels are maintained to achieve on-time deliveries and meet customer requirements while minimizing carrying and transportation costs.
  • Manage setup and maintenance of internal stocking agreements.



Financial Management



  • Understand Plant P&L and main drivers to financial performance. Work with finance, sales, customer service and operations teams to develop and drive programs that improve results.
  • Manage cycle count program and physical inventory events.
  • Manage and resolve slow moving / inactive inventory and develop plans to avoid write-downs.
  • Manage / Monitor labor utilization and overtime in shipping and warehouse areas and take quick action to correct excessive labor costs.



Essentials



  • Manage and ensure employees are compliant with attendance, vacation, FMLA, vacation coverage, and labor time clocks; provide timely approvals.
  • Conduct Performance reviews on a regular basis
  • Manage Dayforce activities, approve labor and vacations for employees in a timely manner.
  • Manage company's risks and liabilities while conducting disciplinary action.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications




  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Material Management, Supply Chain, other related field, or equivalent industry experience, preferred.


  • Minimum 5 years in people leadership role, preferred.
  • APICS or other relevant certification, preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses in Supply Chain disciplines and/or related fields a plus.
  • Must be highly analytical and good at solving complex problems.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Hands on, detail oriented, committed to safety and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and cross-functional collaboration skills required.
  • Experience dealing with carriers and logistic providers is preferred.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude with ability to adapt to change.
  • Position must be based in the Plymouth, IN facility
