The Associate Vice Chair plays a crucial role in the overall leadership and management of the research operations and strategic direction of the DFM. Together with the Vice Chair of Research, this position assume responsibility for supporting the DFM mission area. This role requires a visionary leader capable of balancing their own research, with a focus on promoting research needs and efforts of all faculty and staff throughout the DFM. Examples of Work Performed Key Responsibilities: Provide research mission area leadership and assist the Vice Chair for Research (VCR) with the management, oversight, and coordination of research in the DFM
- Meet regularly with the VCR and other research leaders and be informed regarding Department priorities, issues and decisions. Support Departmental decision-making regarding research matters and priorities.
- Provide research programs and training as appropriate for Department faculty and staff.
- Attend functions representing research either as a proxy for the VCR or of his/her/their own accord within and outside of the Department.
- Conduct other activities as needed to support the Department or research mission area.
- Assist in the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans, focusing on specific functional areas as determined.
- Help to identify, select, and support DFM research faculty and staff. Serve as a mentor for junior faculty and support faculty and staff development.
- Assist the VC Research in representing DFM research mission to internal and external interested parties, including at the national and international level.
Provide leadership for key strategic areas in the Department
- Advance the work of the DFM research mission area in key identified areas such as health equity, clinical trials, clinician participation in research, innovation of practice improvement, practice-based research, mentorship and training or other. Support and oversee these designated programmatic areas, ensuring they contribute to the overarching mission of enhancing primary care, promoting innovation, and supporting research.
- Convening, maintaining, and supporting a vibrant and successful group of researchers in the DFM, and the School of Medicine. This includes mentoring, strategic planning, helping with crafting grant proposals and serving as a co-I or co-PI on proposals as needed and appropriate.
- Building research collaborations between the DFM and other researchers in the Department, across campus and externally (e.g. other institutional partners, national colleagues).
- Support and facilitate collaborations and joint research projects with other mission areas, and key community partners.
Represent and support Department research activities and external relationships
- Support and facilitate collaborations and joint research projects with DFM and other units on campus or in the discipline of family medicine.
- Promote the DFM and its research and other areas.
- Promote synergy between the research mission area and other mission and programmatic areas in the DFM.

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule with on-site and off-site work as needed for in-person meetings in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:
|
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below: Associate Professor
- M.D., D.O., or Ph.D. degree or equivalent in medicine, public health, healthcare administration, or a related field.
- Candidates must have or be able to obtain a faculty appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
- Current achievement of the rank of associate professor, or at least 5+ years working in primary care research, with a proven track record of obtaining large, funded grants in primary care, public health or community health, especially federal grants.
- Proven and sustained excellence in leadership roles within healthcare or academic research settings, particularly in primary care, community health or public health.
Professor
- M.D., D.O., or Ph.D. degree or equivalent in medicine, public health, healthcare administration, or a related field.
- Candidates must have or be able to obtain a faculty appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
- Current achievement of the rank of professor or at least 7+ years working in primary care research, with a proven track record of obtaining large, funded grants in primary care, public health or community health, especially federal grants.
- Proven and sustained excellence in leadership roles within healthcare or academic research settings, particularly in primary care, community health or public health.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in academic leadership roles with positive reviews of performance.
- Experience and success with mentoring junior faculty researchers to independent researchers
- Experience with practice-based research networks (PBRNs) or similar collaborative healthcare research initiatives.
- Expertise with one of the identified strategic areas of focus.
- Innovative thinker with demonstrated ability to expand into new opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop individuals committed to inclusion.
- Role models respect for differences in ideas, perspectives, unique characteristics, and strengths.
- Familiarity with the University of Colorado's institutional structure and the Department of Family Medicine's mission and goals.

Anticipated Pay Range:
|
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: Associate Professor $150,000-$250,000 Professor $200,000-$280,000 The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt. A stipend may be considered and may be part of the total compensation.
