Description

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Pharmacology

Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow

Position #00828484 - Requisition #35295

Job Summary:

A postdoctoral fellow full-time position is available immediately in Dr. Debo Sardar's lab at the Department of Pharmacology at Anschutz Medical Campus. We study glial cells - the non-neuronal cells in the brain. Although understudied, glial cells comprise more than half of our brains, and understanding how they contribute to brain function is a big question in the field. More specifically, our lab is focused on glial epigenetics, and are interested in the question of how glial epigenetics shape animal behaviors, with an emphasis on behaviors of smell. Using transgenic mouse models, our approaches include molecular neuroscience, cellular neuroscience and systems neuroscience, with the primary goal of understanding how glial epigenetics shape sense of smell.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Test hypothesis about functional roles of specific genetic targets in glial cells of the mouse olfactory bulb
  • Perform genetic manipulations in the mouse olfactory bulb using surgical approaches
  • Analyze and integrate genomic data, microscopy data, and mouse behavioral data
  • Present research findings in group meetings
  • Publish research findings, assist with grant writing, and present work in conferences

It is not required to be an expert in the above key responsibilities, since Dr. Debo Sardar will train you as needed. However, prior technical experience with mouse handling, stereotaxis surgery, and analyzing bioinformatic data is highly desirable.

Work Location: This role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Why Join Us:

You will be working in an environment conducting new neuroscience research in the areas of sensory biology (systems neuroscience), glial biology (cellular neuroscience), and epigenomics (molecular neuroscience). Given the broad range of the research spanning from systems to cells to genes, you will gain exposure to a diverse array of concepts and technologies. The lab is open to exploring new ideas and collaborations, and provide personalized support to achieve this. Dr. Debo Sardar will also provide guidance on grant proposals, manuscript preparations, science communication, and technical skill development - factors critical for your career development. Dr. Debo Sardar highly values mentoring and is dedicated to help you achieve your independent goals.
