Job Title: Board-Certified Medical Dosimetrist

Location: Department of Veterans Affairs - VA Long Beach Healthcare System, VA Radiation Oncology Service

Position Type: Full-time, Contract

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Board-Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) to support our Radiation Oncology team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing and optimizing radiation treatment plans and ensuring the precise delivery of radiation therapy to patients. This role involves working closely with Radiation Oncologists and Medical Physicists to provide expert dosimetry support for a range of complex treatment procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

    Treatment Planning: Develop and implement treatment plans for Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS/SRT), Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), and Brachytherapy (HDR/LDR). Collaborate with the Medical Physicist during treatment planning and patient treatment sessions.
  • Patient Support: Be present during HDR brachytherapy treatments and provide backup coverage for LDR brachytherapy volume studies. Assist with treatment simulations and tumor localization using CT and MRI for accurate planning.
  • Quality Assurance: Work under the direction of the Medical Physicist to ensure all treatment plans meet safety and quality standards. Perform calculations for dose delivery, verify accuracy, and maintain proper documentation in patient files.
  • Technical Assistance: Support the production and use of custom shields, compensating filters, wedges, and other treatment accessories. Assist in fabricating and supervising the creation of molds, casts, and immobilization devices.
  • Dosimetry Support: Provide technical support in radiation protection, machine calibration, and quality assurance of radiation therapy equipment. Assist in various dosimetry methods, including ion chamber and film measurements as directed by the Medical Physicist.

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Must be certified by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of continuous work experience in the last 3 years to ensure current and relevant expertise.
  • Skills: Proficient in radiation treatment planning software and techniques, including advanced procedures like SRS, IMRT, and brachytherapy.
