Job Description

The Staff Accountant position will support the accounting department in the safeguarding of company assets and ensuring the compliance of company accounting standard operating procedures and policies for Omni Hotels and Resorts



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will assist the Director of Finance, Controller, Assistant Director of Finance and Accounting Manager to help oversee daily accounting operations focusing on timeliness and accuracy of information reported to the property Executive Management Team and Corporate Office.

PRIMARY DUTIES OF THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT
    Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ensure proper clearing of clearing accounts
  • Assist with service charge reconciliations for bi-weekly payroll
  • Complete daily Treasury reconciliation
  • Complete daily Tax reconciliation
  • Research and respond to chargeback notifications
  • Preparation and posting of journal entries assigned
  • Complete monthly balance sheet account reconciliations as assigned
  • Perform month end accruals, reclasses, inventory entries, balance sheet true ups as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by DOF, Controller, ADOF and Accounting Manager
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Good oral and communication skills,
  • Proficient computer skills particularly Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
  • Good telephone etiquette
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret written material such as general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations, etc. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, vendors and the public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, etc.
  • Must have the ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations.
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Accounting degree or equivalent combination of related work experience within the hospitality industry and education.
  • Previous resort/hotel experience with computerized accounting systems.
  • Proficient PC skills particularly with spreadsheet software (Excel) and Property Management System.

  • Highly confidential employee data, legal and financial information.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • Embrace and exhibit the standards and culture of The Omni Homestead Resort and Spa. Adept at learning new computer software and systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT

General Office

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must be able to regularly life and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
