The Department of Neurosurgery at Children's Hospital Colorado/University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU-SOM) has a (0.5FTE) clinical faculty position available for an Advanced Practice Provider. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be a clinical faculty member of the CU-SOM, entering at the level of Instructor. This position encompasses inpatient and outpatient medical care services for children suffering from a wide range of neurosurgical disorders. As a faculty member of the CU-SOM, opportunities for professional development may include precepting medical learners, education of nursing and medical staff, participation in quality and safety improvement projects, clinical research projects, and mentoring residents and junior Advanced Practice Providers. Responsibilities of the APP position include primary patient care, including being a surgical first assistant; care of hospitalized neurosurgical patients in the Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units, neurosurgical floor, neurosurgery clinic, and evaluating new consultations in the hospital and emergency department. The APP will work closely with other members of the Neurosurgery service including faculty, APPs and residents. A portion of this role's time will be on nights and weekends. Other duties/proficiencies include:
- Serving as a first assistant in the operating room for pediatric neurosurgery procedures
- Admitting patients to the hospital - either direct admit from an outside hospital or from the ED, performing history and physical exam, patient assessment, ordering appropriate labs, diagnostic studies, and radiology tests, and follow up and formulation of treatment plan of the ordered lab, studies, and tests
- Some Night/Weekend Service Responsibility
- Performing necessary emergent and non-emergent procedures in the ICU with hospital privilege after demonstrated competency and according to standardized protocols where applicable
- Performing efficiently in urgent/emergent situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events
- Assisting with transfer orders, discharge to outside facilities and associated documentation
- Establishing and maintaining communication with other health care providers and departments to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness and to promote consistency and continuity of care (e.g. handoffs, sign out and transfer summaries).
- Demonstrating responsibility and accountability for own professional practice
- Function as a clinical leader and educator in collaboration with physicians, nurses and others on the healthcare team
- Demonstrating knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management, in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning
- Participating in research activities as requested
- Demonstrating a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and other members of the health care team
- Demonstrating proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities to document, track, and convey information
- Attending weekly specialty conferences as permissible with clinical schedule
- Attending conferences, board review courses, practical procedure boot camps and other professional development both in-state and out of state
- Participating in quality and safety improvement projects as requested

Qualifications:
|
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master's degree in Advanced Practice Nursing (Acute Care NP) or a graduate of an accredited program in Physician Assistant Studies
- Current active license to practice in the state of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant. Prescriptive authority is required.
- Currently credentialed as an APN or PA by the appropriate national certifying body.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in inpatient or intensive care
- Experience in surgical subspecialty
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to learn operative techniques
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally
- Proven ability to care for high acuity, high complexity patients
- Desire to learn and perform procedures appropriate in the pediatric neurosurgery setting
- Ability to work individually and as a team to support team-based medical care in an APP/Physician/Resident Physician model

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: $54,251.60 - $72,664.80 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
