Position Title: Intern - Production/Engineering

Location of Position: United States -- Wisconsin -- Sturgeon Bay

Business Group: Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding

Department: Production Management

Position Type: Internship; Temporary; Non-Exempt

Reports To: Assistant Production Manager

Position Summary: This position involves close collaboration with our Engineering, Project Management, Planning, and Production teams on the engineering, planning, and construction of multiple ocean-going ATB new build projects. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in repair projects, vessel repowering, conversions, and bid work at our expansive 63-acre facility, which includes both waterfront operations and several fabrication shops. Interns will be supported by a mentor group, serving as a resource for guidance on company operations, vessels, customers, and life in Door County.

Detailed Description:



  • Support production performance and project tracking.
  • Collaborate with all departments to bridge the gap between planning and production.
  • Support in tracking measurable progress and coordinating daily plans with production supervisors.
  • Technical review of drawings and hands-on inspection of completed work.
  • Coordination of various trade activities involved with all aspects of ship construction and repair.
  • Creation and documentation of test memorandums.
  • Troubleshoot various planning and engineering challenges as they arise.
  • Research and develop solutions to accommodate various customer needs.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Ability and willingness to engage in highly energetic pursuits on the waterfront.
  • Maintain a commitment to and promote the Quality and Environmental, Health & Safety Policies.
  • Abide by all organizational policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program relating to the engineering field


Desired Qualifications:



  • Junior, Senior, or graduate level
  • Advanced coursework in the fields of Construction Management, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Structural Engineering
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, modeling and drafting software
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to interact at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
