Your Role With Us:

  • Performs staff workload responsibilities, setting high standards of performance.
  • Leads and educates team members Monitors daily workload and coordinates adequate staffing by working with manager or supervisor.
  • Promotes flexibility and teamwork as workload requires; Effectively communicates status of outstanding tasks and status of department to manager, supervisor and coworkers.
  • Effectively prioritizes work so that efficiency is optimal and turnaround time expectations are continually met; Flexibility in tasks and bench assignments exhibited as workload requires; Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in work volume and staffing. Understands principles and procedures of each work bench; accurately responds to questions that arise from support staff, technical staff, client service staff, outreach clients or other practitioners in a supportive and respectful manner.
  • Serves as a resource and educator for staff. Assists in coordinating timely training of staff for new policies and procedures as they are instituted. Helps teach staff in the effective use of Hospital and Laboratory information systems. Demonstrates good working knowledge of web based programs; Assists in instructing staff in the use of all available resources for problem resolution.
  • Participates in conflict resolution by actively listening and maintaining a professional demeanor while working towards a positive resolution of minor issues.
  • Documenting all personnel issues for manager or supervisor follow up; Providing specific feedback to the supervisor regarding employee performance for annual reviews; Participates in a supportive role with the manager and supervisor. Offers constructive feedback/criticism in a nonjudgmental, positive and confidential manner. Insures all staff use downtime appropriately
  • Reviews and/or creates standard operating policies and procedures; Verifies and documents satisfactory equipment operation. Is responsible for maintaining equipment and notification of manager or supervisor in a timely manner of problems with equipment.
  • Follows infection control procedures to ensure a safe work environment; Follows prescribed safety techniques to maintain personal and co-worker safety; Instructs staff in proper safety techniques when indicated; Promotes safe work practices; Participates in assigned quality assurance and performance improvement activities required to maintain the established standard of discipline performance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in and compliance with the Hospital Safety Management Program; Supports and initiates changes and improvements in the workplace in coordination with the manager and supervisor (e.g. assists with updating procedures as necessary to comply with current work methods).
  • Monitors supplies and ensures their availability and use in a cost-conscious manner to minimize operating expenses; Communicates issues to manager or supervisor as they arise; Receives, records and relays messages accurately and in a timely manner. Efficiently resolves or directs complaints to manager or supervisor; Routinely goes out of the way to assist others (i.e. patients, visitors, employees and Medical Staff).
  • Demonstrates self-motivation and acts on opportunities for professional self-improvement (e.g. solves problems independently, accepts extra assignments).
  • Takes responsibility for keeping professionally informed (e.g. reads memos and minutes from other meetings and/or attends department/unit meetings); Readily volunteers or accepts assignments and outside development activities as opportunities arise.

    Background/Expertise:

    • One (1) year of related work experience in a laboratory area of comparable complexity and services, exhibiting extensive and current knowledge of laboratory operations required; Documented proficiency in phlebotomy skills.
    • Nationally recognized Phlebotomy Certificate or agrees to obtain at individual's own expense within six (6) months of hire date.
    • Must possess strong communication; Effective communication with all members of the health care team is essential.
    • Experience in team process, quality management, and problem solving required; Experience with a Laboratory Information System strongly desired.
    • Ability to analyze current methods and processes, look for improvements and develop reports/recommendations; Ability to detect and investigate problems, make evaluations supported by tangible evidence, ability to provide consultation to physicians, nurses and others in area of specialization.
    • Requires demonstrated ability to review existing procedures as well as the creation of new procedures; Thorough and current knowledge of the principles, techniques, procedures, instrumentation and safety precautions in the field of specialization required.
    • Ability to coordinate orientation and training programs of new and current team members and assists with continuing education opportunities required.
