Position Overview:
The Portfolio Manager II supports the San
Antonio Commercial, Business, and Private Banking Relationship Managers (RMs)
by administering credit relationships. This role is directly responsible for
the daily management, underwriting, credit approval, closing, and post-closing
monitoring of existing and prospective loan relationships. As the primary
liaison between the RMs and Credit Administration, this position ensures the
efficient delivery of credit products to bank clientele.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts underwriting of existing and new credit exposures for Commercial, Business, and Private Banking opportunities, ensuring adherence to credit policies and standards.
  • Manages the credit portfolio for assigned Relationship Managers, including the reduction of past-due loans, timely renewals, minimizing reporting exceptions, and monitoring financial covenants and collateral exceptions.
  • Assists in structuring credit facilities to mitigate identified risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory and bank guidelines.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for credit administration, providing training and mentoring to credit analysts to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Acts as a key team member within the San Antonio office, focusing on internal processes to enhance the efficiency of bankers in their external engagements.
  • Supports the analytical needs of the Special Assets Committee for all Commercial, Business, and Private Banking loans within the San Antonio portfolio.
  • Ensures thorough documentation and accuracy in all credit-related transactions, including the preparation of credit memorandums and risk assessments.
  • Collaborates with the RMs to identify potential credit risks and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Monitors market trends and economic indicators that could impact the creditworthiness of the bank's clientele, providing insights to the RMs and Credit Administration.
  • Participates in loan reviews and audits, ensuring that the portfolio meets the bank's risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall goals of the San Antonio team.
  • This position may require travel within the Bank's geographic area.


Experience & Education:

  • 3+
    years of experience as a credit analyst, commercial loan underwriter,
    relationship manager, or in loan review.
  • College
    graduate with a 4-year degree; a major in the Business School, including
    at least 12 hours of accounting coursework is a plus.
  • Formal
    credit training.
  • Experience
    in a variety of commercial banking credit structures.

Skills &
Qualifications:

  • Strong ability to analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other financial data to assess the creditworthiness of loan applicants.
  • Ability to manage multiple workflows for different bankers while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Capable of making informed, independent decisions regarding credit approval and portfolio management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with RMs, Credit Administration, and clients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, providing support and mentorship to others.
  • Meticulous in reviewing loan documentation and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products and experience with bank core systems, including financial spreading software.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate credit risks within the portfolio.
  • Experience in training and mentoring junior staff, particularly in credit analysis and portfolio management.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability
    to adapt to changes in the regulatory environment and implement necessary
    adjustments in credit practices.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull weights or otherwise move objects weighing as much as 10 lbs. on a regular basis and/or for extended periods of time during the workday.
  • Occasional overtime or extended hours may be required.
