About the Job

This position provides grant support to faculty in the Medical School. The position reports to the Director of Pre-Award and Proposal Development Services.

Responsibilities/Duties:

The Grants & Contracts Professional 2 will support the Medical School Dean's Office, Pre-Award team. Top priorities will include assisting with grant proposals, supporting grant development tools, and process improvement feedback. The individual will work closely with the Director, Officer 1, pre-award cohort team members, and Medical School faculty and research administration staff school-wide to facilitate research activities. The individual will offer guidance and expertise on the preparation and submission of internal and external proposals. The individual will work closely with the large/complex grant program manager and department representatives to align processes and submit large grants for the Medical School.

85%: Pre-Award Proposal Development Services

  • Support Medical School grant submissions for Departments, Centers and Institutes that require pre-award support for successful grant submissions
  • Understand and communicate upcoming sponsor changes, internal pre-award system implementations, and necessary information related to University restrictions and compliance
  • Create a timeline and checklist of items needed for each proposal as necessary and communicate these to P.I.
  • Create PRF and ensure grant budgets for all proposals submitted through the University that involve the resources, space, faculty, or staff from Medical School are accurate. Understand the basis of each of the PRF questions, ensure responses are accurate and appropriate, and identify all required signers.
  • Serve as a resource in grant preparation components such as assembling applicable publications, current grant listings, curriculum vitae/biosketches and other materials used in proposal packages.
  • Ensure all proposal submissions are complete and in compliance with agency and University guidelines and instructions.
  • Work with SPA and PI to review terms of pending award for acceptability.

15%: Research Administrative Support

  • Collect documentation to support large scale/complex grant submissions including but not limited to biosketches, other supporting documents, and letters of support.
  • Review templates/job aids and provide feedback to team to make processes more efficient
Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:

  • BA or BS with at least 2 years of professional experience performing scientific, administrative, budgetary, grant duties, or a combination of related education and work experience equal to at least six years
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects with fixed deadlines and ability to re-prioritize tasks as needed to successfully meet all deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education institution
  • Experience with electronic proposal submission systems such as Grants.gov, ProposalCentral and other grants management (e.g., UMN's EGMS), sponsor grant databases (e.g., NIH RePORTER) and funding opportunity databases (e.g., Pivot) or University of Minnesota financial systems
  • Effective team member skills and the ability to effectively interface with all levels of the organization (students, staff, faculty, stakeholders and central administration).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite applications (e.g. Docs, Sheets, Slides), and Adobe Acrobat
