This position performs technical responsibilities in support of the 24/7 needs of the Emergency and Critical Care units (ECC) of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). Make a real difference in patients' and their owners' lives!


Responsibilities:
Veterinary Technician I (AN002)
Veterinary Technician II (AN003)
Veterinary Technician III (AN004)
Tasks:

  • Calling in the appropriate services and backup support after hours and weekends for patients
  • Care and hourly treatment of CCU hospitalized patients
  • Catheter placement (iv, urinary, etc.)
  • Charge capture of services for patients
  • Client communication and documentation
  • Collection and submissions of lab samples
  • Follows UWVC policies and procedures
  • Maintenance and knowledge of equipment in the department and hospital
  • Participates in the rotating OC shifts for the teaching hospital
  • Participates in the training and mentoring of students, interns, technicians, assistants, and residents
  • Pharmacy medication script fills for hospitalized animals
  • Radiographs of patients
  • Sedation and anesthesia for patients in the ECC
  • Triage and stabilization of patients
  • Bring a positive, helpful attitude to the unit

Qualifications:

Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.

This position is posted at Vet Tech levels 1, 2 and 3. Level is determined by qualifications based on type of prior veterinary tech experience.

To qualify for Level 1: Entry level, new CVT grad with minimal experience.

To qualify for Level 2: Generally over 2 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.

To qualify for Level 3: Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital.

Work Schedule:

UW Veterinary Care Emergency and Critical Care Units (ECC) have a variety of weekend shifts available! Incumbents would work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights and/or days. Schedule determined based on unit need

Pay incentives for evening and weekend shifts of $3.00/hour night, $1.80/hour weekend, and the total you could earn is $4.80/hour for weekend and night differential on top of the base pay! This position is also eligible for a $3.00/hour ECC shift differential in addition to the night and weekend differentials.

Position will include holiday and weekend shifts. Potential for additional on-call hours as required by the hospital.

Full or Part Time: 25% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $27.00 Maximum $35.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
Sign-on Bonus of 5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment (Minimum of $1,800+ for Veterinary Technicians)!
