Job Overview:

The SPD Technician, Certified, is responsible for the daily activities of the Central Sterile Supply Department which includes all aspects of the decontamination and sterilization process.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • CRCST Certification
  • Maintains membership with a recognized Central Sterile Association
  • Successful completion of site personnel general and department specific orientations

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift
  • Per Diem Scheduling

Essential Functions:

  • Check all instruments to ensure all parts of instruments/equipment are thoroughly clean and functioning prior to the sterilization process
  • Cleans all patient care equipment properly to prevent cross infection and to provide protection and maintain the health of patients and personnel
  • Identifies criteria for selecting method of disinfection and/or sterilization by following manufacturer s recommendations
  • Maintains the appropriate working condition of equipment utilized in direct patient care
  • Performs biological monitoring of steam, ETO and gas plasma sterilization to provide the necessary assurance that sterilization parameters have been met
  • Reviews sterilizer performance tests and completes required documentation
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
