This position will have the opportunity to work on advanced reactor systems in design and testing with responsibilities in research, development, and design of our microreactor applications in commercial, defense, industrial, sea and space applications. This is a wfh/onsite hybrid role based in Etna, PA. Job Responsibilities In this position the engineer can expect to be responsible for the following: * Perform nuclear and mechanical design of reactor core, nuclear components and radiation shielding through 3D modeling (Inventor, etc) and analysis software (ANSYS, MCNP, SCALE, SERPENT, etc) * Perform reactor engineering design and analysis calculations related neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, or radiation for steady state and transient conditions, including transport & Monte Carlo methods * Evaluate different phases of the nuclear fuel lifecycle from enrichment through decommissioning as well as criticality safety from fabrication, transport, operation, and post-operation * This position may involve evaluations of international and domestic safeguards and non-proliferation strategies * Familiarity with NRC, DOE, CNSC or IAEA regulations for nuclear design and accident analyses. * Familiarity with common and new nuclear materials and properties for modeling and design * Identify and define technical issues and challenges, direct efforts to successful resolution. * Capability to work across an integrated team of engineers and designers * Bring engineering rigor to resolution of problems that are sometimes loosely- or only partially-defined, requiring knowledge and experience within given discipline. Minimum Requirements The successful candidate for this position will possess the following: * Minimum 1 year of working experience or advanced degree (Master's or PhD.) * A bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering or physics * Preferable internship, co-op, or university laboratory experience in nuclear or radiation field * This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an US Government security clearance. Clearance must be maintained without interruption. * Basic experience with analysis codes such as ANSYS, SERPENT, GRIFFIN, MCNP, SCALE or equivalents * Strong computer skills, proficiency in using LINUX (capable of running jobs using super-computers) and proficiency in computer programming/coding * Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills and experience * Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks and perform tasks under pressure Why Westinghouse?
