Key Position Details:

****$15,000 Sign On bonus for external talent joining the organization****

  • On call + holiday call shifts assigned per departmental need.
  • 8-hour, day / evening shifts, and occasional weekends

Job Description:

Provides assistance to physicians while scrubbing advanced or complex surgical procedures on two or more teams with the capability to take call. Acts as resource and mentor for other staff members seeking to expand their knowledge. Participates in providing care to patients, undergoing surgical intervention, including identifying, assembling, and facilitating use of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies to assist the surgical team. Tasks are supervised by registered nurse and delegated by the surgeon.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Participates as a surgical team member
    • Prepares the OR and sets up for procedures.
    • Identifies supplies, instruments and equipment needed.
    • Maintains safe environment for patient and other staff, using electrical equipment and instruments correctly.
    • Follow aseptic technique standards of practice.
    • Handles medications and specimens following policies/procedures.
  • Assists the physician in the scrub role during surgical procedures
    • Maintains sterile field.
    • Anticipates needs for instruments, equipment and other supplies.
    • Performs sponge, sharps and other counts accurately.
    • Accounts for all instruments and items on the field.
    • Communicates to physician and circulator when needs arise during the surgical intervention.
  • Contributes to success of other CSTs on the team
    • Acts as preceptor/mentor for new surgical technologists, and resource for others seeking to expand their knowledge.
    • Monitors progress.
    • Works with the team to identify ways to improve the work practices and efficiencies.
  • Provides assistance to physicians while scrubbing advanced or complex surgical procedures
    • Works between two or more surgical teams and shares call
    • Acts as expert clinical resource by assuring surgeons have what is needed to do cases.
    • Informs manager/supervisor of staff and surgeon concerns, quality/safety or other department issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Vocational or Technical Training graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program
  • 2 to 5 years experience scrubbing in multi specialty setting minimum 2 years

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist - The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or
  • Tech in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) Certification required upon hire
  • BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource required upon hire
