Job Summary

The Safe Redbirds Ambassador is a student employee position that assists in a wide variety of activities designed to assist in maintaining and maturing the University's emergency preparedness and safety programs. Further, the position is designed promote good security and safety practices throughout the campus community. Those chosen for the position will be trusted members of ISU's public safety initiatives. Assignment to this position may require a background check.
Safe Redbird Ambassador broad responsibilities can include:
* Prepare training materials and deliver as needed
* Participate in student-focused emergency preparedness and safety outreach programs
* Assist with collecting and reporting on Safe Redbirds Ambassador team activities
* Act as a liaison to student groups, organizations, and/or individuals on student-focused emergency preparedness and safety related concerns
* Assist in fostering relationships and partnerships with on campus groups, inclusive of underrepresented groups
* After a campus crisis, partner with public safety departments to offer listening, outreach, advocacy and related safety and security-related services
* Be an advocate for student-focused safety and security practices for the entire University community


Additional Information

Specific responsibilities can include all or some of the following:
* Assist in delivering emergency preparedness and safety-related awareness and education campaigns
* Participate in listening sessions, outreach, relationship-building and related safety, security and preparedness-related activities
* Participate in planning sessions
* Participate during home Football games and other planned events, as needed
* Provide Safe Walks
* Assist in identifying and reporting safety or security related issues on campus


Pay Rate

$15.00/hr


Preferred Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE RECOMMENDED
1. Academic or practical experience within one or more disciplines of public safety (law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical services, public health, health sciences, nursing, emergency management, lifeguard, Explorers/Civil Air Patrol/Scouts, etc.)
2. Competency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
3. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with individuals from various technical and educational backgrounds
4. Ability to work independently when necessary
5. High personal integrity and self-motivated
6. Excellent interpersonal skills


Work Hours

Work hours will vary between general 8am to 4:30pm, with evening and weekend hours necessary depending on duties assigned or events planned.


Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation
1. Effectively communicate on a daily basis.
2. Move about in various locations across campus as needed to complete day -to-day work.
3. Be willing to work a flexible schedule depending on the needs of the program

This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and if applicable, an employment history review, based on University Policy 3.1.30 and any offer of employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation and/or an employment history review. Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held.
