Job Summary:

The Department of Surgery at The University of Wisconsin is recruiting an exceptional Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon with an interest in Pediatric Plastic Surgery to join our vibrant Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The successful candidate will have a track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience.

The Division of Plastic Surgery leads multi-disciplinary programs in Cleft and Craniofacial Anomalies, Craniosynostosis, Brachial Plexus, Birthmarks and Vascular Anomalies, Spasticity, and Congenital Extremity Anomalies with colleagues from diverse specialties throughout our growing Children's Hospital. The Division cares for children from a broad geographic region throughout the state of Wisconsin as well as northern Illinois, eastern Iowa, and the upper peninsula of Michigan and currently staffs two outreach clinics throughout the region.

The UW SMPH Division of Plastic Surgery includes 13 full time faculty members, 18 integrated plastic surgery residents, 2 research fellows, 7 advanced practice providers, and an administrative staff of 8. The full breadth of plastic surgery clinical care is performed for adults and children including general reconstruction, breast surgery, microsurgery, pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgery, gender affirming surgery, hand and upper extremity surgery, aesthetic surgery, and migraine surgery. The majority of clinical care occurs at University Hospital (Level One Trauma Center), American Family Children's Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital, with additional services at East Madison Hospital, Meriter Hospital, and Madison Surgery Center. Faculty participate in robust clinical, basic science, and translational research, and are committed to the education of medical students and residents. Care of adult patients who have sustained craniofacial trauma will be part of the required clinical responsibilities. Additionally, the Division has developed and led a successful and sustainable global surgery program and participation is encouraged.

The UW Department of Surgery consists of more than 160 faculty across eleven specialty divisions, performing more than 25,000 operations annually. The Department also trains more than 70 residents and fellows and is consistently ranked amongst the top surgery programs with extramural research funding, currently 7th in the nation according to Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The department provides a robust infrastructure of services including academic resources such as The Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), which provides support, resources, and a collaborative environment to facilitate surgical health services research at the University of Wisconsin. The Department's Office of Clinical Research provides 24/7, 365 day a year clinical trial coordinator support for Clinical Trials as well regulatory support for research, and the grants management team provides comprehensive pre-award to post- award support. The Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin also provides access to a network of surgeons throughout the state and this platform provides opportunities for collaborative quality improvement that improves the care of surgical patients throughout the state and region.


Responsibilities:

The position will be based at the American Family Children's Hospital, where the division treats patients across the breadth of pediatric plastic surgery including cleft, craniofacial surgery, pediatric hand, brachial plexus, pediatric microsurgery, adolescent breast surgery, congenital nevi, birthmarks and vascular anomalies, and ear reconstruction.

The American Family Children's Hospital is attached to the University Hospital, where an adult plastic surgical practice within the candidate's areas of experience and interest will be supported. The successful candidate would be joining a collaborative team and expected to contribute to the three academic missions: Clinical Care, Education, and Research. Time dedicated to clinical responsibilities will be equal to 75%, with the remaining FTE percentages committed to research, education or scholarly duties and service. Adjustments to dedicated percentages of time can be made based on the selected finalists' funding needs and programmatic needs. The successful candidate would be involved in resident and medical student education, have an interest in research, and an interest in global surgery is preferable.

The applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members. Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles listed in this posting. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

Qualifications:

Completion of Plastic and Reconstructive Residency training and fellowship training in a pediatric plastic surgery subspecialty (e.g., craniofacial, pediatrics plastic surgery) is required by the start date.

Candidates must possess clinical and academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor rank at the CHS Track that have been previously established by UW School of Medicine and Public Health Guidelines.

Candidate is required to have or be eligible for Wisconsin and Illinois medical licenses by the start date of position. Board certification or board eligibility in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery through the American Board of Plastic Surgery or equivalent is required. Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the start date of position.
