Position Overview

Essential Job Duties
Dr. Rajeev Gupta's laboratory in the department of materials science and engineering focuses on advancing fundamental understanding of the structure-processing-property-performance relationships in metallic materials, passivity, corrosion initiation and propagation mechanisms, and surface electrochemistry using state-of- the-art material characterization and electrochemical techniques. The fundamental research is intended to be applied in developing new metallic materials, corrosion characterization techniques, material processing technologies, and life prediction models.
Rajeev's interdisciplinary research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Office of Naval Research, and Industries.

The primary purpose is to conduct research to develop materials with extreme corrosion properties including corrosion resistance, and corrosion-resistant, study the microstructure and corrosion relationship at various length scales in materials. The outcomes of the work will be published in open scientific literature and used in proposals for federal and industrial funding to support the research program on materials with extreme properties.

Duties and Responsibilities include:
a) Conduct corrosion and high-temperature oxidation experiments
b) Produce metallic materials using mechanical alloying, arc melting, spark plasma sintering, and additive manufacturing
c) Characterize metallic materials using SEM, EDX, FIB, TEM and XRD
