SUMMARY:
The Ophthalmic Coordinator performs basic and intermediate ophthalmic exam techniques including specialized testing. Responsible for teaching and instructing other technical staff in basic examination techniques. Works with Clinic Manager, Chief of the service area, residents and attending physicians in coordinating daily clinic workload activity.

DESCRIPTION:

Provides input to clinic manager for annual evaluations, corrective action, hiring of new staff, orientation of new hires and performing annual competencies for ophthalmic technicians and support staff of the clinic. Performs other duties as assigned. Responsible for performing special testing such as topography, IOL, HVF, GVF, IOL Master, and A/B scan. Serves as a senior resource to staff and shares information and knowledge. Provides teaching and clinical instruction to technical staff to improve skills and knowledge. Participates in the development of policies and procedures. Coordinates the workflow and provides on-going feedback. Informs Clinical Engineer with any mechanical difficulties or equipment failure. Participates in the collection of patient history and completes ocular workup such as visual acuity, refraction, ocular history and vital signs.

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High school diploma or GED Required
  • Associate's degree Preferred
  • Three (3) years related ophthalmic experience working in a clinical setting Required
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) Required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required (American Heart Association)
