What this job involves: The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Instrumentation Technician oversees the daily operation of the campus systems, utilities, and process equipment. Utilizes the site BMS to ensure systems are operated within design parameters in the most energy efficient manner. The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician manages outside BMS contract service providers, assists in controls troubleshooting and takes appropriate actions to protect equipment and personnel when systems are not functioning properly. This position requires a high level of technical expertise with a variety of building and process systems. The individual in this role must be available for on-call work.

What your day-to-day will look like:
Troubleshoot building and process automation from basic to advanced control.
Troubleshoot digital communications used in automation and control system.
Troubleshoot field and test instruments.
Install, troubleshoot, and repair campus systems, utility, and process equipment & instrumentation.
Fine tune loops to achieve better environmental control as well as to save energy.
Troubleshoot, repair, and verify operation of the SCADA remote monitoring and control system for campus systems, utility, and process equipment.
Work on Siemens Building Automation System - Installing physical devices / instruments, connecting them to field panels, building points and graphics, trending points, alarm management, field troubleshooting etc.
Interact with other departments to schedule activities around the production schedules of the cGMP Manufacturing and Process Development departments. Schedule self-performed work assigned at beginning of month and due by end of month.
Assist team members during startup of equipment to identify and correct problems that may arise during troubleshooting.
Evaluate control system performance and make recommendations to optimize process efficiency, reliability, and safety.
Knowledge and hands on experience with control and simulation techniques and strategies
Perform troubleshooting, PMs or Calibrations, and physical repair work along with team as needed by testing and calibrating electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and analytical instruments & equipment for conformance to established standards using engineering principles.
Examples include but not limited to: WFI, Clean Steam, HVAC, Compressed Gases, Waste Treatment, CIP, Autoclaves, Glassware Washers, vessels, Cold/Warm equipment & rooms, Control Systems, and Aseptic Filling systems.
Provide responsive customer support with emphasis on customer satisfaction.
Provide complete and accurate documentation.
Know how to read and interpret prints, schematic drawings, manuals, and specification documents; mark up and create red line drawings.
Maintain trained and certified status as required in cGMP, GLP, HR, and industry procedures as required.
Support internal, Client, and Regulatory Agency audits as required.
Work with shipping to send out equipment or standard for offsite vendor service and track status.
Contribute to the creation of maintenance and calibration procedures and update existing procedures to match best practices and lessons learned.
Identify and order spare or replacement parts for equipment utilizing inventory management system.
Recommend facility improvements to meet OSHA safety, ISPE, or FDA guidelines.
As required, review of system operations reports to ensure that systems are functioning properly and not wasting energy by running redundant equipment when not required.
Any and all other duties assigned.

Physical Job Requirements:
Overhead work / working at heights required.
Must be able to work in a clean room manufacturing environment which includes gowning and respirator requirements.
Environmental conditions will vary based on the job being performed. Work may take place in either the calibration lab and/or in the plant depending upon the job requirements. Must be capable of working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Skilled and physically able to operate electric hand tools, work on a ladder, carry tools, lift, and carry heavy loads, and operate required equipment.

Work Schedule:
1st, 2nd, 3rd and Weekend Shift Available.
Subject to 24-hour availability.

Desired or Preferred Experience and Technical Skills:
Conflict resolution skills and the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
Engineering degree or equivalent work experience.
Valid trade license or completion of an approved apprenticeship program.
Proficiency in programming Controls (BAS/BMS) systems.
Experience working in a customer service environment, interacting with clients and ability to remain focused and independent with minimal supervision.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively through oral and written reports.
Demonstrates leadership by example and effectively manages competing priorities.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to make well-informed decisions based on a wide range of data.
Has the ability to handle and resolve customer/consumer complaints in an efficient manner.

Required Skills and Experience
5 - 10+ years of experience working with electrical or instrumentation/controls systems.
Knowledge of BMS platforms including, but not limited to, Siemens, DeltaV, Honeywell, and Allen Bradley.
Proficiency in basic computer application software such as MS Office, Outlook, CMMS systems, etc.
Adequate skills to perform required job functions with minimal supervision.
Valid driver's license.
