General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is looking for an Endoscopy Technician to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital!

Primary Duties:
Utilizes biopsy forceps to obtain tissue samples. Utilizes snares and/or other retrieval devices to remove polyps and/or foreign objects from the GI tract. Operates electrocautery and argon plasma coagulation equipment during polypectomies. Utilizes endoscopy clips and loops to control GI bleeding. Places and/or retrieves esophageal, colonic, biliary, and pancreatic stents. Deploys Savary, Achalasia, and through-the-scope balloon dilators.
Assists with the operation of equipment for sphincterotomy, biliary stone removal, and lithotripsy. Operates fine needle aspiration equipment during ultrasound procedures. Assists in pre- and post- procedure patient care by inserting/removing peripheral intravenous lines, connecting patients to physiological monitoring equipment, recording vital signs on patient endoscopy records, monitoring recovery of patient's post-sedation, and entering patient data in the Pentax computer-based reporting system. Assists with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including the set-up, testing, and operation of appropriate equipment. Prepares biopsied tissue and fluids for examination by Pathology, including the completion of all associated paperwork. Operates the Endoscopy Unit's fluoro equipment during endoscopic cholangiograms, bronchoscopies, dilatations, and other procedures requiring fluoroscopic guidance. Able to generate and retrieve reports and diagnostic images for fluoro procedures.
Assists in performing measurement of radiation exposure to facilities and personnel, and responsible for the protection of patients from ionizing radiation during procedures done utilizing fluoro equipment. Participates in research protocols for the evaluation of investigative devices/procedures. Performs quality control checks on assigned equipment, completes daily inventory checks, and completes all required documentation. Assists in cleaning/stocking the procedure rooms, recovery area, and screening area. Monitors and maintains stock items on all off-unit emergency procedure carts.
Performs maintenance of all endoscopes including inspection, leak testing, high-level disinfection, and identification of needed repairs. Cleans, prepares for transport, and transports endoscopic equipment and accessories for sterile processing and returns sterilized equipment to proper storage. Monitors and documents potency testing and expiration date of disinfecting solutions as required by institutional policy; assists with annual measurement of disinfecting solution vapor levels in the scope processing area; maintains adequate disinfecting solution and enzymatic cleaner in automated washers/disinfectors and ultrasonic cleaning machine; stores and disposes of disinfecting solution according to institutional policy.
Participates in the orientation and training of personnel assigned to the division. Conducts in-service training sessions for division personnel on such things as endoscopy equipment care, operation, and maintenance. Exemplifies Commitment to Care (C2C) standards in all activities.

Qualifications:
Successful completion of a comprehensive Unit-based competency program.
IV insertion/ Phlebotomy training.
BLS (Basic Life Support).
Unit certification required to assist with endoscopic procedures independently.
1-2 years patient care experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Completion of a Nursing Assistant, Clinical Technician training program or LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) Program preferred.

This position has a hiring range of $19.17 - $31.36
