Job Summary
Fishbeck is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our team in our Lansing, MI office to help serve municipal, university and commercial clients. Qualified candidates will have experience working with clients from design through construction on a broad range of municipal reconstruction and site development projects. This position requires self-motivation, commitment to high-quality work performance, excellent planning and communication skills, and the ability to work independently or with a project team, and will be an active participant in their career.
Primary Functions


  • Plan and design for water main, sanitary and storm sewer and road projects for local municipalities and universities.
  • Plan and design for a variety of site development projects and clients, including direct engineering for client projects and supporting other Fishbeck departments with Civil engineering on their project needs.
  • Perform design calculations, quantify bid items, develop cost estimates, execute CAD drafting, and prepare reports.
  • Manage projects and project teams for a variety of site development projects and clients. Manage projects from the beginning of the due diligence process, through the approvals and permitting, final design and construction phases.
  • Work closely with other technical staff from all Fishbeck offices to assist in providing consulting engineering services from state and private universities, municipalities, and local development clients.
  • Work closely with marketing and technical staff from all Fishbeck offices to assist in winning consulting services from universities, national retailers, municipalities, and local development clients. Existing relationships and contacts with these client types is a plus.
  • Interact daily with project teams in a multi-disciplinary and multi-office environment.


Minimum Physical Requirements
Exposed to occasional lifting and carrying. Will have normal office working conditions and be required to sit and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and maneuvering around project sites for attending client and project meetings and site observations. Able to use various technical equipment for communication and documentation. Visual acuity is necessary to perform responsibilities.
Desired Education
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Desired Skills/Experience


  • Professional Engineering license preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.
  • Excellent computer and communication skills.
  • Proposal skills including scope development, organizing team, estimating level of effort, editing, and reviewing.
