Job Summary:



The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) is a 516-bed acute care psychiatric hospital that provides inpatient behavioral health services for adults, adolescents and geriatric patients. CMHHIP is a forensic hospital that serves individuals with pending criminal charges who require evaluations of competency, individuals who have been found to be incompetent to proceed (restoration treatment) and individuals found to be not guilty by reason of insanity by Colorado's criminal courts.

CMHHIP is located in southern Colorado on a 300-acre campus. This position will be required to be in person in Pueblo, CO and is not located on Anschutz Medical Campus.

The Psychiatrist will be responsible for offering professional psychiatric services to patients in compliance with Colorado Mental Health Institutes at Pueblo and mental health guidelines, to include psychiatric assessment of patient's mental health needs, prescription and management of psychiatric medicine, clinical management of patients with mental illness, consultation with other staff regarding the mental health needs of patients, provision of training to ancillary staff regarding psychiatric needs and issues, and assisting in the care of patients presenting with psychiatric crises or emergencies.

This position is considered open rank based on number of hours worked between 0.5 FTE - 1.0 FTE.

The Department of Psychiatry welcomes applicants who are international medical graduates and who require J1 visa waivers.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Provides psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients on an inpatient psychiatric unit.
  • Collects, organizes and evaluates information from a variety of sources including patient, family members, outpatient providers and other members of the treatment team (e.g. nursing staff, social workers, psychologists, etc.).
  • Prescribes medications as indicated and manages adverse reactions, effectively monitoring and changing treatment as needed.
  • Provides input for clinical and administrative programming of the treatment unit(s).
  • Communicates effectively with team members and other hospital staff.
  • Follows proper documentation policies including medical necessity for patient treatments. Remains up-to-date with documentation as described in policy.
  • Serves on various committees to assist the hospital in its mission and goals.
  • Participates in Peer Review activities.
  • Complies with Medical Staff Bylaws and Medical Staff Rules & Regulations.
  • Maintains active clinical staff privileges and current license.
  • Performs other duties as reasonably requested.
  • Provides clinical coverage to colleagues as needed.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Senior Clinical Instructor or Senior Instructor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

This position is considered open rank based on number of hours worked between 0.5 FTE - 1.0 FTE.



  • Current Colorado MD or DO license.
  • Board eligible in Psychiatry


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Board certified in Psychiatry
  • Experience working with Forensic populations


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students Knowledge regarding clinical research regulations and principles of ethical conduct.
  • Knowledge, experience, and ability to manage complex information and computer systems.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$309,240 (for 1.0 FTE).

This position is eligible for up to a one-time $10,000 recruitment incentive.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
