Job Summary:



The Department of Pathology operates multiple reference laboratories focused on cytogenetics and genomics and molecular pathology/molecular genetics on the Anschutz Medical Campus. These laboratories provide state-of-the-art laboratory medicine and genetic testing services using a broad spectrum of technologies, including conventional karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), chromosomal microarray, targeted PCR, and next-generation sequencing to name a few. Areas of testing include constitutional diagnostic testing from pre-conception through adulthood, pharmacogenetics, and population screening, as well as somatic diagnostic testing and precision medicine applications in oncology. The Department of Pathology also assists in the operations of other clinically certified laboratories affiliated with the University of Colorado and UCHealth.

The Department of Pathology is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant to Associate Professor Level, who is MD, DO, or PhD fellowship trained and board certified or board eligible in molecular genetic pathology, clinical molecular genetics and clinical cytogenetics, and/or laboratory genetics and genomics. The faculty will provide scientific and clinical expertise based on their training and certification in the areas of clinical molecular genetic and cytogenetic testing. Candidates with strong clinical and scientific backgrounds, experience in laboratory leadership and management, extensive expertise in clinical molecular genetics and cytogenetics preferred. Individuals with experience in academic laboratories, and those with strong communication and interpersonal skills will be favored. This position may include opportunities for clinical and translational research and test development. Participation in educational activities is expected.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical and administrative activities (80%)



  • Serve as Associate Director of the CCPM Biobank Laboratory
  • Function as an attending within one or more additional laboratories for the review and release of clinical genetic test results across a spectrum of testing types, including cytogenetics and molecular pathology applications, pharmacogenomics, population screening, and other applications.
  • Consultation with provider clients
  • Participation in quality assurance/quality management/quality improvement programs
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements, including maintenance of accreditation by the College of American Pathologists
  • Participation in employee and technologist education


Education activities (10%)



  • Participation in training of resident and fellowship trainees
  • Didactic instruction and oversight of undergraduate and graduate trainees in medicine and healthcare related fields


Research and scholarly activities (5%)



  • Applied research and development projects directed towards unique or improved laboratory test and services, especially using FISH and new cytogenomic techniques
  • Engagement in translational or clinical research, with academic scholary productivity commensurate with academic track and rank


Academic administrative activities (5%)



  • Participation in departmental, school, and professional committees
  • Participation in CU SOM interdisciplinary and disciplinary clinical conference

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Assistant Professor:



  • MD/DO and/or Ph.D. with appropriate Board certification
  • Candidates must be board certified or board eligible for clinical activities through the American Board of Pathology (ABP) in Molecular Pathology or through the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) in either Clinical Molecular Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics or in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics.


Associate Professor:



  • MD/DO and/or Ph.D. with appropriate Board certification
  • Candidates must be board certified or board eligible for clinical activities through the American Board of Pathology (ABP) in Molecular Pathology or through the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) in either Clinical Molecular Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics or in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics.
  • Minimum of 5 years of faculty experience at academic medical center and independent research or peer reviewed publications in molecular pathology, molecular genetics, and/or cytogenetics commensurate with rank.


Professor:



  • MD/DO and/or Ph.D. with appropriate Board certification
  • Candidates must be board certified or board eligible for clinical activities through the American Board of Pathology (ABP) in Molecular Pathology or through the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) in either Clinical Molecular Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics or in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics.
  • Minimum of 15 years of faculty experience at academic medical center and independent research or peer reviewed publications in molecular pathology, molecular genetics, and/or cytogenetics commensurate with rank.
  • Previous experience as a clinical molecular genetics laboratory director


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Prior clinical laboratory experience including laboratory and staff management.
  • Prior clinical biorepository experience

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor: $170,000 to $220,000

Associate Professor: $221,000 to $290,000

Professor: $250,000 to $310,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
