About the Job

The Nguyen Lab is currently developing small molecule probes, biochemical, cell biological and genetic approaches to investigate the underlying DNA damage response mechanisms in cancers. One area of active research is to investigate mechanisms of sensing and resolving R-loops in cancers to provide molecular insight for the development of new targeted cancer therapeutic approaches. Research technicians are responsible for performing standard bench-level laboratory experiments in support of scientific research.

Responsibilities:

100% Laboratory research
* Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work (DNA/RNA isolation and analysis, protein isolation and SDS-PAGE analysis, standard molecular biology techniques)
* Perform and modify documented protocols and assays
* Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays
* Interpret and report on experimental results
* Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed
* Participate in lab meetings and journal clubs
* May supervise other trainees in the laboratory.

A successful candidate will have scientific curiosity, a high level of self-motivation, the ability to take instruction and correction and to follow directions, good organizational skills and the ability to work and think independently. The candidate must have a track record of reliability and good verbal and written communication skills. This is an ideal position for a recent graduate with an PhD, MD/PhD degree in related fields, but not limited to, such as Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, and Pharmacology.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:
* PhD or MD/PhD degree in biochemistry, biology, pharmacology, or related fields is required. Must have scientific knowledge in the area of research.
* DNA manipulation, generation, purification, and analysis: PCR, DNA cloning, bacterial transformation, and plasmid isolation and purification. DNA analysis such as DNA gel electrophoresis and analyzing DNA sequencing results/
* Western blot techniques: SDS-PAGE gel electrophoresis and western blot.
* Co-immunoprecipitation and ChIP
Routine mammalian cell culture, transfection using sterile techniques.

Preferred qualifications:
* Immunofluorescence microscopy: sample preparation, immunofluorescent microscopy experience, image analysis using ImageJ.
* Bioinformatics is highly desirable.
* Statistical data analysis and data analysis.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $61,008 - $63,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
