The Department of Modern Languages seeks qualified individuals to join us as lecturers of language and/or culture for non-benefited, part-time teaching assignments. The specific course involved may vary from semester to semester and may be taught in English or the target language, depending on departmental needs.


Lecturer - Modern Language
What you will do:

  • Conducting all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared way.
  • Thorough and accurate correction of assignments, providing appropriate constructive feedback.
  • Prompt return of corrected work and recording of grades.
  • Providing guidance and support to students.
  • Offering regular weekly office hours on campus for students.
  • Administering midterm course evaluations.


Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $1,496 per credit hour taught for lower division courses per semester and $1,645 per credit hour taught for upper division courses per semester.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Graduate level and/or Terminal in Chinese (language), French (language), additional modern languages, or additional relevant field.


Substitution: Significant professional industry experience may substitute for the degree, year for year.)



Additional Qualifications you already possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience teaching in a higher education environment in related field to teaching assignment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Chinese and/or French is also appreciated.
  • Ability to work and teach effectively both in an online or hybrid in-person delivery.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.
