Position Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's degree.

Experience

  • One (1) year of specialized administrative experience in human resources.

OR

Combined education and experience qualifications

  • Three (3) years of specialized administrative experience in human resources may substitute for theminimum qualifications.

Other requirements

  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.

  • Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.

  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.

Essential Job Tasks

(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)

  • Performs specialized Personnel clerical duties in centralized Human Resources Services Division.

  • Reviews and processes personnel forms.

  • Enters data or information into County and MCSO databases.

  • Trains new employees in Employment Services processes.

  • Provides customer service via telephone, email, and in person for employees, applicants, the public, law enforcement entities, and governmental agencies.

  • Explains and responds to questions concerning personnel policies and procedures and a variety of human resources related subjects.

  • Processes applicants for new hire and/or promotion.

  • Provides documentation to Compensation Section for Placement in Range. Once range is provided, call Applicant and advise of offer; schedule appointment for orientation.

  • Orders promotion supplies.

  • Attends and assists with promotion ceremony for both Sworn and Detention staff.

  • Inventories and orders office supplies.

  • Orders and returns files from Pre-Employment needed for Personnel Services.

  • Conducts new employee orientation for potential applicants or new employees.

  • Formulates reports, composes correspondence, memorandums, and forms.

  • Communicates effectively with all levels of staff and the general public.

  • Processes post-employment matters, such as new hire paperwork; address, name, dependent, marital status changes; and transfers, resignations/retirements/ AZ POST AA, A-1, TM and status change forms.

  • Maintains records for inventory and issuance of identification cards, badges, parking cards, bus/light rail card, and County driver's license for employees.

  • Issue badges, ID cards, add ID card access and research to resolve ID card access issues.

  • Processes and files confidential information in individual Personnel files and with County.

  • Performs courier functions as needed. (both walking and driving a vehicle). Drives office carpool vehicle to run various errands.

  • Assists in problem solving regarding the administration of the personnel system.

  • Prepares paperwork such as job requisitions, new hire forms, Personnel Action Forms (PAFs), Positions Management Forms (PMFs).

  • Assists with preparation of documentation for recruiting of positions and forward to County for posting.

  • Researches, develops, and implements special projects for department(s) as assigned by the Commander or Supervisor.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of benefits provided through Maricopa County.

  • Coordinates MCSO programs and events pertaining to Human Resources.

  • Acts as liaison with County and MCSO staff.

  • Works cooperatively in a team environment with MCSO and County employees.

  • Uses logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions.

  • Runs Criminal and Driver's License records checks.

  • Assists with outside agency cross-certification with MCSO.

  • Assists with maintaining office Preservation files.

  • Is present at work site to perform assigned tasks at the times and dates scheduled and/or assigned by the supervisor.

Work occurs primarily indoors working in MCSO jail facilities with various staff and all classifications of inmates.

This is an in-office working position (teleworking is not available). Work occurs indoors and outdoors. Use of a vehicle and walking approximately four (4) street blocks. Tasks require managing time pressures and high work volumes with concentration and accuracy. Position requires ethical conduct and a professional demeanor.

  • Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate, up to midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity and budgetary allowances.
