Travel Medical Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) Location: Alexandria, LA Schedule/Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, Night Shift Pay: $1,899 - $2,076 per week Duration: 13 weeks Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Medical Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Alexandria, LA. This position involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients with a variety of medical conditions and multiple comorbidities in a fast-paced, 36-bed medical surgical unit. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical assessment skills, experience managing telemetry patients, and the ability to prioritize patient care while collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Job Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to medical surgical and telemetry patients while maintaining a 6:1 patient-to-nurse ratio. Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions, vital signs, and responses to treatment. Monitor telemetry patients and recognize changes in cardiac rhythms and patient status. Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and blood products according to established protocols. Perform wound care, dressing changes, and wound vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) management. Manage patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pumps, epidurals, and chest tubes. Operate and monitor equipment, including IV infusion pumps, bladder scanners, EKG machines, BiPAP devices, enteral feeding pumps, and high-flow oxygen systems. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans. Collaborate with physicians, licensed practical nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care. Maintain accurate patient documentation using the Meditech electronic medical record (EMR) system. Float to other medical surgical/telemetry units based on staffing and patient care needs. Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions. Job Requirements Previous medical surgical nursing experience required. Experience caring for patients requiring telemetry monitoring. Active Registered Nurse (RN) license. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification. Strong physical assessment, clinical judgment, and critical thinking skills. Ability to manage patients with multiple comorbidities and complex care needs. Proficiency in medication administration, IV therapy, and patient monitoring. Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize patient care and adapt to a fast-paced clinical environment. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a medical surgical/telemetry unit. Experience caring for orthopedic, neurological, or trauma patients. Familiarity with Meditech electronic medical records. Experience with wound VAC therapy, chest tube management, and PCA pumps.
