High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in humanities/liberal arts or social sciences.
Experience related to book design, production, file conversion, and printing technology preferred.
Electronic editing experience with MSWord preferred.
Experience working at a book or scholarly journal publisher or equivalent freelance design, production, and editorial experience with book publishers preferred.
Position Summary
The production coordinator reports to the Assistant Director for Publishing Operations and the Assistant Director for Editorial, Design, and Production and is responsible for performing project management work consisting of a variety of tasks related to oversight of editing, design, and production of scholarly books. The essential duties of this position include coordinating the design, composition, printing, and ebook conversion of 5-8 frontlist titles per year; typesetting 3-5 frontlist titles per year; coordinating the editing and production of new-in-paperback and restock titles; arranging the conversion of designated materials to ebook formats and ensuring conformance to accessibility standards; evaluating digital art submitted by authors for print suitability; performing editorial tasks on 5-8 frontlist titles per year, such as manuscript preparation, editing indexes, and proofreading; and acting as a liaison with freelancers, production vendors, and press colleagues.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Knowledge of traditional and contemporary publishing, bookmaking, editorial, and production processes, including familiarity with publishing standards, composition practices, and style manuals.
  • Skill in editing, proofreading, and quality assurance, with a high level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Proficiency in publishing, design, and business software applications, including Adobe Creative Cloud products, Microsoft Office applications, publishing systems, and related technologies.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high quality work standards.
  • Skill in oral, written, and interpersonal communication, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with authors, clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating adaptability, sound judgment, initiative, professionalism, and a commitment to ethical conduct.
  • Ability to analyze information, solve problems, make informed decisions, and adjust priorities in response to changing organizational and operational needs.

Maintains accurate documentation of technical requirements throughout design and production process for archiving and processing future editions. Evaluates the work of design, composition, print, and ebook vendors.
