Description Electric Distribution Director, Energy, Houston, TX As our Energy practice continues to expand across Texas, Halff is seeking a Director of Distribution (PE) to lead the strategic growth, operational excellence, and technical delivery of our electric distribution business throughout Houston and South Texas. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a seasoned industry professional who excels at building teams, developing client relationships, driving business growth, and delivering successful utility infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in electric distribution engineering and operations, a strong understanding of utility systems, and a proven track record of leading teams, managing client accounts, and growing a successful practice. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Halff's electric distribution services while building a premier distribution team in one of the fastest-growing utility markets in the country. What you will do: Lead the strategic development and growth of Halff's Electric Distribution business across Houston and South Texas. Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of engineers, designers, project managers, and technical staff. Develop and execute market growth strategies targeting electric cooperatives, municipalities, investor-owned utilities, and other power delivery clients. Serve as a trusted advisor and senior client contact for key utility accounts. Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities through relationship development, networking, and proposal leadership. Establish annual growth plans, revenue targets, staffing strategies, and operational objectives. Oversee the delivery of distribution projects, ensuring quality, profitability, schedule adherence, and client satisfaction. Lead the planning, design, and execution of overhead and underground electric distribution systems, system hardening projects, reliability improvements, relocations, reconductoring efforts, and utility modernization programs. Collaborate with leadership across transmission, substation, and power system planning disciplines to develop integrated client solutions. Support recruiting efforts, workforce planning, and succession planning within the Energy practice. Champion a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Represent Halff at industry conferences, trade associations, and utility events throughout Texas. What you will need: Active Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program. 15+ years of experience in electric utility engineering, design, operations, or consulting. 10+ years of leadership, management, or supervisory experience. Proven experience leading electric distribution projects and teams. Strong understanding of overhead and underground electric distribution systems. Knowledge of utility standards, NESC, NEC, ERCOT market considerations, and utility design practices. Demonstrated success in business development, client relationship management, and revenue growth. Experience managing budgets, forecasts, staffing plans, contracts, and project financial performance. Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and team-building skills. Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout Texas as needed. Preferred Qualifications: Experience serving electric cooperatives, municipalities, and investor-owned utilities. Established relationships with utility clients in Houston and South Texas. Experience leading multi-office or regional utility engineering teams. Familiarity with GIS, utility asset management systems, and utility design software platforms. MBA or advanced technical degree is a plus.
