Role Overview

  • This role offers an opportunity to shape enterprise data strategy and architecture within a dynamic technical environment. The Database Architect will design, model, and oversee database solutions across multiple platforms to support mission-critical business operations. This position requires deep experience across diverse database technologies, data modeling, performance tuning, and data migration methodologies.

Essential Functions & Duties:

  • Architect, design, and maintain enterprise databases across multiple platforms (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL systems).
  • Oracle experience is a must
  • Develop and maintain logical and physical data models to support scalable applications and analytical workloads.
  • Lead end-to-end data migration initiatives, including schema design, ETL planning, data validation, and cutover execution for legacy-to-modern database transitions.
  • Assess and optimize database performance, including indexing strategies, query tuning, storage configuration, and capacity planning.
  • Partner with application development teams to ensure database architectures meet functional, security, and performance requirements.
  • Participate in enterprise architecture planning and contribute to standards, best practices, and governance for data systems.
  • Implement version control and CI/CD database pipelines using tools such as GitLab or similar.
  • Support Agile development workflows, adapting architectural designs and implementation plans to evolving business needs.

Skills, Qualifications, and Certifications of Best Candidates:

  • 7+ years of experience architecting, designing, and administering relational and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with multiple database platforms (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB).
  • Demonstrated expertise in data modeling, normalization, schema design, and metadata management.
  • Proven ability to manage complex data migrations involving large datasets, high-availability systems, and minimal-downtime requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to performance and reliability challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working within Agile environments.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with cloud database services (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL).
  • Experience with data integration tools (Informatica, Talend, AWS Glue) or ETL frameworks.
  • Knowledge of DevOps concepts for database CI/CD automation.
  • Exposure to Java or enterprise low-code platforms such as Appian.
  • Experience with Jira for requirements management and sprint planning.

Education/Certification Requirements:

  • A BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science, from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution fulfills the educational requirement .

In Lieu of education requirement listed, candidate must have the required certification or will obtain required certification within 6 months of the start date. Certification requirement(s) for this role is AN IASAE II certification (CASP+CE, CLSSP associate) or CSSLP.

Citizenship & Clearance Requirements:

  • Top Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one is required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must pass a background investigation

Target Salary Range

Compensation for roles at Synergy is determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the requirements of the role; level of experience; education and certifications; the individual's combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities; as well as alignment with market data, federal and state laws, and other business and contract considerations. The estimated pay range for this position is: $157,500.00 - $190,000.00. The disclosed range has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case and represent just one component of Synergy's total compensation package for employees.
