Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC is looking for a Subject Matter Expert/Functional Area Expert (SME/FAE) to provide support for our government customer in National Capital Region, Washington, D.C. This position is onsite Monday-Friday at the Pentagon. Seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) / Functional Area Expert (FAE) with exceptional and highly specialized qualifications and recognized as an industry leader within their area of expertise (Space Management). The successful candidate will possess unique experience and education and are responsible for initiating, supervising, and developing requirements from project inception through completion for complex to extremely complex programs. They will provide strategic advice, technical guidance, and expert analysis to support mission-critical challenges. The successful will candidate will collaborate with clients to define needs, lead studies, collect and analyze data, and develop informed recommendations and solutions for senior DoD leaders. Responsibilities DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Initiates, supervises, and develops project requirements from inception to conclusion for complex and extremely complex programs.
- Provides strategic advice, technical guidance, and subject matter expertise to program and project teams.
- Performs detailed analysis, evaluations, and develops recommendations for system improvements, optimization, development, and maintenance.
- Coordinates with clients to define needs and problem statements; leads studies and surveys to collect and interpret data.
- Provides expert solutions and recommendations based on mission-specific challenges.
- Supports strategy formulation, resource execution, and planning of Department of Defense (DoD) resources.
- Communicates clearly and persuasively with senior executives across Executive Branch agencies, Military Departments, and DoD organizations.
- Develops innovative and practical solutions to senior management challenges within DoD environments.
- Conducts comprehensive analyses of complex issues and develops actionable plans to address them.
- Assists in planning and coordinating organizational activities to ensure strategic priorities are achieved.
- Evaluates and recommends improvements for administrative functions, including HR, budget, logistics, facilities management, security, and contract administration.
- Drafts high-caliber senior executive decision documents based on detailed review and analysis of enterprise-wide issues.
REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS: Master's Degree or above. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of twenty (20) years of knowledge of DoD, OSD, and WHS or of comparable federal experience in similar environments.
- Must be capable of high-level analyses of complex environments and applying them directly to senior decision-making processes. Demonstrated ability to articulate DoD policy positions to senior-level audiences, support multiple complex projects, define organizational goals, and integrate resources to reach critical end states. Skilled in developing, coordinating, and implementing enterprise-level responsibilities. Able to conduct comprehensive analyses of complex issues, formulate creative solutions, and translate them into actionable plans.
- Demonstrated knowledge of responsibilities, functions, and operations across DoD organizations.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills appropriate for senior-level government audiences.
- Expert knowledge of strategy formulation, execution, and planning of DoD resources.
- Deep understanding of the organization and functions of OSD, the Joint Staff, Military Departments, and Defense Field Activities.
- Extensive knowledge of DoD policies, procedures, and techniques for addressing senior management challenges.
- Proven ability to assess implications of actions on DoD interests and communicate complex issues effectively.
- Ability to lead complex, multifaceted projects and integrate diverse resources to meet strategic objectives.
- Strong capability to conduct high-level analyses involving broad and complex institutional factors.
- Experience drafting senior executive decision documents that accurately reflect enterprise-level issues and analyses.
- Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint Teams, and Outlook), specifically demonstrating the ability to independently construct, format, and align complex data tables, manage spreadsheets, and collaborate seamlessly in a virtual team environment.
- Execution-Oriented Mindset: Willingness to perform both high-level strategic analysis and tactical, hands-on administrative tasks (such as manual data entry, tracking, and database updates) to support the core mission.
- Task Ownership & Accountability: Proven capability as a self-starter who can take a task from initial assignment through to final, polished delivery within client deadlines.
- Exceptional Quality Control: Rigorous attention to detail to ensure absolute accuracy of data, dates, and contextual information in all client deliverables.
- Professional Decorum & Adaptability: High emotional intelligence (EQ) and demonstrated professionalism when collaborating alongside government clients in a dynamic, open-plan workspace.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Senior service level support in the Pentagon is strongly preferred. REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

- Must have an Interim Secret Clearance to start employment. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
