Responsible for the assessment and management of patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary disorders, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and clinically appropriate respiratory care services as prescribed by the medical staff for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations.

The Clinical Respiratory Therapist II serves as a role model and resource providing clinical leadership and service coordination that assures consistently high-quality care and participates in quality improvement, performance monitoring, and professional practice initiatives. facilitating continuous improvement in respiratory care services.

The Clinical Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for comprehensive patient assessment and care; collaboration and consultation with interdisciplinary healthcare team members; education of patients, families, staff, students, and the community; and participation in quality improvement, performance monitoring, and professional practice initiatives.

  1. Competently performs the following professional respiratory care services to patients as ordered by the physician:
  • Ventilator management
  • Blood gas interpretation
  • Airway management (stabilization and clearance)
  • Emergency/trauma response
  • Delivery of all gases associated with cardiovascular compromise.
  • Inhaled medication delivery including indications, contraindications, and side-effects
  1. Follows Respiratory Care procedures consistently to ensure safe care including:
  • Prioritization of workload
  • Critical thinking
  • Accurate charting
  • Communication with other members of the team
  1. May function as a shift Team Leader, supporting peers and management in the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient respiratory care, including:
  • Maintaining clinical expertise across all critical care areas
  • Serving as a preceptor and mentor for employees, new hires, and students as assigned.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, review of current literature, and attendance at workshops, conferences, and in-service training programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year experience
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively within intra and inter departmental teams.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive and positive working relationships with internal and external customers and co-workers
  • Possess the knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position, including, but not limited to:
    • Expert knowledge of clinical respiratory care assessment and therapeutic modalities for the clinical area(s) assigned
    • Expert knowledge and experience in the application of ventilator support
    • Patient and family education
    • Experience in planning and conducting Inservice education and training
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of neonatal/pediatric acute and intensive care preferred
  • Prior Experience and demonstrated abilities in:
    • Adult, Pediatric, or Neonatal critical care
    • Quality Improvement processes
    • Clinical Education
    • Implementation and application of patient-driven protocols.

Required/Licesnes/Certifications:

  • Current and valid California Respiratory Care Practitioner License
  • CA RCP
  • Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Therapy
  • BLS, NRP required
  • Current basic life support for healthcare providers (HCP) certification
  • In addition:
    • Pediatric Clinical Team Leaders - Pediatric Advanced Life Support
    • Neonatal Clinical Team Leaders - Neonatal Resuscitation Program

    • Adult Clinical Team Leaders - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
