Division Overview

The mission of the ACS is to advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people. The strategic objectives of the Department of Meetings and Exposition Services reflect the responsiveness of the Division in fulfilling the vision, mission, and values of ACS and meeting the needs of the changing chemistry enterprise.

This position reports to the Director of Events. The Registration Manager provides day-to-day leadership and strategic oversight for all aspects of registration across large-scale in-person and virtual global events. This role ensures exceptional attendee experience, operational excellence, and strong cross-functional alignment while owning the execution and continuous improvement of registration operations.

Strategic Leadership & Planning



  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive registration strategies that support organizational goals and deliver a seamless user-centered experience across in person and virtual events.
  • Establish and manage production timelines, milestones, workflows, and dependencies that guide end-to-end registration operations and ensure adherence to schedules.


Operational Oversight & Team Management



  • Manage and develop ACS registration staff, call center personnel, and temporary/on-site teams, including work assignments, performance management, coaching, and quality oversight, to ensure consistent service standards.
  • Provide leadership across multiple concurrent events, independently managing priorities, risks, and resources to ensure all assigned registration components are delivered effectively.


Technology Stewardship & System Optimization



  • Serve as the subject matter expert for registration platforms, leading the design, build, and optimization of web based registration systems to support global events.
  • Partner with IT, Operations, and external vendors on platform enhancements, integrations, updates, testing, and adherence to best practices for usability, accessibility and system performance.


Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement



  • Act as the primary liaison between registration operations and internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment on event requirements, content, and user experience standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot issues, resolve risks, refine registration processes, and ensure consistency across all touchpoints.


Quality Assurance, Data Integrity & Reporting



  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and security of registration and financial data through rigorous testing, validation, reconciliation and quality assurance practices.
  • Develop and deliver customized registration, attendance, and financial reports that support pre-event planning, onsite operations, and post-event analysis, including insights and recommendations for improvement


Standards, Documentation & Training



  • Develop and maintain registration architecture, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and documentation to support efficient, scalable, and repeatable operations.
  • Lead training and education for staff on registration processes, platform capabilities, and best practices.


Onsite Leadership for Major Events



  • Provide on-site leadership for selected events, overseeing registration logistics, staffing, technology, and attendee experience to ensure smooth, efficient, and high-quality on-site operations.



Qualifications

  • Ability to work nights and weekends for successful execution of events. Ability to move about to accomplish tasks for many hours a day during events. Ability to lift 25 lbs and work extended days during events
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
  • Approximately 25% travel


Required Experience

Requires BA/BS degree or equivalent experience. Minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience including 2+ years experience in a lead position with project management experience. Experience implementing and building a new registration vendor platform from the ground up is required (understands dataflow, paths and programming needs for registration buildouts). Experience with known registration vendors such as Cvent, Maritz, etc. is required. Application training experience and a background working with registration technology is required.

This role is based in our Washington, DC office. ACS employees work a hybrid schedule, consisting of working onsite two days per work week, as decided by functional area. The balance of the week is open to working remotely, though employees are always welcome onsite each day if they choose.

A reasonable rate of compensation for this position is between $100,000 - $110,000 per year.
