Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Customer Meter Engineer to support electric metering operations, compliance programs, testing initiatives, and metering technology improvements. This role serves as a technical subject matter expert responsible for ensuring revenue metering systems, equipment, and processes comply with regulatory requirements, operational standards, and industry best practices.

The Customer Meter Engineer will support meter testing programs, evaluate metering technologies, develop technical specifications and procedures, provide engineering support for metering applications, and collaborate with internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and vendors. This position requires strong electrical engineering knowledge, utility metering expertise, and the ability to support both electric and gas metering initiatives as needed.

Job Responsibilities



  • Support the implementation of safety, health, environmental, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and managing electric metering compliance activities for revenue metering systems.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and monitor meter testing procedures and strategies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support and administer meter testing programs, including test procedures, equipment evaluations, and regulatory reporting.
  • Provide technical expertise related to electric revenue metering systems, equipment, software, and applications.
  • Develop and maintain metering methods, procedures, specifications, standards, and documentation.
  • Evaluate metering equipment, transformers, interfaces, and related technologies for operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Review customer drawings, metering designs, specifications, and installation requirements.
  • Assist with forecasting, procurement planning, and inventory management of metering equipment and tools.
  • Coordinate with vendors, engineering teams, operations personnel, and other departments on metering initiatives and technology implementations.
  • Support software applications related to metering operations, testing, data collection, and reporting.
  • Analyze new metering technologies and recommend improvements to support operational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Conduct technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions for operational personnel.
  • Provide technical support to departments including revenue protection, customer operations, energy services, new business, and field operations.
  • Participate in regulatory meetings, industry committees, and stakeholder discussions as required.
  • Assist in identifying solutions for meter connections, system performance issues, and operational challenges.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to metering operations, testing programs, and customer service.
  • Travel throughout service territories and other locations as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electric metering, utility operations, electric distribution, transmission, or a related technical field.
  • Strong knowledge of electric revenue metering systems, testing procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience developing technical procedures, specifications, standards, and engineering documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with customers, regulatory agencies, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required.


Education



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.


Work Experience



  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in electric metering, utility operations, electric field services, distribution systems, transmission systems, or related engineering environments.
  • Experience supporting metering compliance programs, testing procedures, and regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Experience working with metering software applications, system integrations, and technology implementations preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with regulatory agencies and industry organizations preferred.
