Weston is seeking an experienced Senior Laboratory Chemist to support the EPA Response Engineering Analytical Contract (REAC), providing critical analytical support during environmental emergencies and Superfund projects. This role supports time-sensitive investigations across diverse sample matrices including air, soil, water, and oil, in both fixed and mobile laboratory environments.
The Senior Laboratory Chemist serves as a technical expert, partnering with project teams and clients to deliver high-quality analytical data in support of environmental response and remediation efforts.

Expected Outcomes
  • Execute GC/MS analyses of organic compounds across multiple environmental matrices in both fixed and mobile laboratory settings
  • Deliver accurate, defensible analytical data using EPA methods (e.g., 8260, 8270, TO-15, 8082A) within required turnaround times
  • Prepare and process samples, standards, and reagents using appropriate extraction and preparation techniques (e.g., liquid-liquid extraction, Soxhlet/Soxtherm, solid-phase extraction)
  • Interpret and evaluate mass spectral data to identify compounds using spectral libraries and sound analytical judgment
  • Produce clear, concise, and technically accurate analytical reports for clients and project teams
  • Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation to ensure performance, reliability, and data integrity
  • Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods using GC systems equipped with detectors such as FID, PID, and MS
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and management of hazardous materials in compliance with laboratory and regulatory requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline, including at least 30 credit hours in chemistry
  • Minimum of 10 years of analytical chemistry experience, including at least 5 years of hands-on instrumentation experience
  • Strong knowledge of organic chemistry, chromatography, and mass spectrometry principles
  • Experience with SW-846 methods for organic analysis in soil, water, and oil
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
  • Understanding of hazardous waste characterization, storage, and labeling requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Toxic Organic (TO) air methods
  • Knowledge of vapor intrusion sampling techniques, including passivated (Summa) canisters and Tedlar bags
  • Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) framework (ICS 100, 200, 700, 800); certification preferred
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
  • Strong knowledge of EPA analytical methods and environmental regulations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel for field assignments, including mobile laboratory deployments
