Elmhurst University is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach an undergraduate level Human Anatomy and Physiology I course.

BIO 107 Human Anatomy & Physiology I: Structure and function of the human body and of underlying biological principles. Designed for students in nursing, physical education and health sciences. Not applicable for biology major or minor. Includes laboratory with virtual dissection table.

Position Status: Exempt

Salary Range: The pay range is $3,800-$4,000 for a standard 1.0 credit (4 semester hour) course. New part-time faculty start at $3,800 (Adjunct Level 1).

Work Location: This position is ineligible for remote work.

Responsibilities
  • Instructor is responsible for using materials that are standardized across all sections of the course. Blackboard shell, assessments, and activities are provided.
  • All planning of the course and course materials, as well as posting onto the delivery platform (currently Blackboard) must be done prior to the first day of class.
  • Instructor is expected to be present for all course meetings, including the final exam period, and hold additional office hours to assist with student questions. Delivery method is scheduled as hybrid, with in person laboratories and asynchronous video lectures (provided).
  • The instructor will monitor student progress, grade assignments, and post grades on Blackboard in a timely fashion.
  • Midterm and final grades must be submitted to the University by the required due dates.
  • Appropriate faculty training (i.e. cybersecurity training) will be completed during the semester by the due dates.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in biology or related field is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching undergraduates.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in an indoor setting with limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is often sedentary in nature and requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods. Required abilities include speaking and hearing for in-person and virtual communication, using close and distance vision when reading documents or viewing screens, and performing tasks with repetitive fine motor skills. Work may require occasional lifting, bending, carrying, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Qualified applicants who can perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations will be considered.
