Summary

The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for overseeing the management, performance, and security of multiple database technologies, including Sybase IQ/ASE, Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server. This role requires a hands-on approach to developing task automation using CI/CD pipelines for routine DBA tasks, as well as the ability to work with customers and guide other DBAs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in either MS SQL server or Sybase, agile methodologies and a thorough understanding of Jira, both for Kanban and Scrum boards.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of database systems across various technologies, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Develop and implement task automation strategies using CI/CD pipelines to streamline routine DBA tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Manage and enhance the MS SQL Server database servers including clustered servers while adhering to established SLAs for problem resolution.
  • Establish and manage the MS SQL Server lifecycle including upgrades, standardization and configuration management and patching in close collaboration with customers.
  • Collaborate with application and data teams to understand business requirements and translate them into effective database solutions.
  • Utilize Jira to manage project workflows, ensuring effective tracking and reporting of database-related tasks within both Kanban and Scrum frameworks.
  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate defect resolution to maintain high availability and reliability of database systems.
  • Establish and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures to ensure data integrity and security across all database environments.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve database management practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience as a senior system DBA with SQL Server technologies and allied products such as SSIS and SSRS
  • 5+ years of experience supporting a secondary database technology such as Sybase Server, MySQL with proven ability to work substantially independently
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in developing task automation using CI/CD tools and pipelines for routine DBA tasks.
  • Hands-on experience of at least 2 cycles of product upgrades at enterprise scale for SQL server databases
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with agile methodologies, including proficiency in using Jira for project management.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience in performance tuning of database systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS SQL Server certification is highly advantageous
  • Familiarity with cloud database services, particularly AWS RDS, is highly desirable.
  • Experience with database monitoring and management tools, such as SolarWinds or Redgate.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and database management tasks.
  • Experience with database version control tools and practices.

Salary Range

The proposed salary range for this role is $135,000 to $150,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Karsun considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
