| Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
This position is at the forefront of retention and graduation efforts by providing information to freshman and sophomore students transitioning into the university on majors, degree requirements, academic progress, academic standards, policies, programs, and student information systems through educational planning, problem-solving, and resource/referral information. The position assists with proactive retention strategies for at-risk students including reaching out to at-risk students at early warning and midterm reporting periods. |
| Primary Purpose of Position |
The primary purpose of this position is to provide academic advisement to NCCU's first year, sophomore, transfer students, and students returning to complete their degrees in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and University College through one-on-one meetings, workshops, or presentations regarding majors, degree requirements, academic progress, and selection of courses for future semesters. |
| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Excellent organizational and communication skills. Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission and structure of
NCCU programs and curricula. |
| Minimum Education/Experience |
Master's degree preferred in counseling or related field. Preferred requirements include Master's degree in education, counseling, criminal justice, social work, psychology, family and consumer sciences, public administration, kinesiology or recreation administration. Required minimum bachelors degree. |

This position will provide academic advisement to NCCU's University College constituents (first year students, sophomores, transfer students, and students returning for the EndZone Initiative to complete the
BSS degree) through one-on-one meetings, workshops, or presentations regarding majors, degree requirements, academic progress and selection of course for future semesters. |
