SUMMARY: Responsible for the successful development, implementation, and maintenance of all quality programs surrounding the manufacturing processes and products for a successful Food Safety & Quality Management System. Has oversight and leads a culture of quality for all aspects of the organization from concept through entire product life cycle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned.
POSITIONS SUPERVISED * Quality Engineer, Food Safety and Regulatory Specialist, Lead Quality Inspector, and Quality Inspectors
QUALITY SYSTEM MANAGEMENT * Develop, implement, communicate, and maintain a quality management system to ensure the company's quality systems and policies are in compliance with all applicable requirements. * Assist leadership team in establishing measurable company goals and objectives. * Monitor and advise on the performance of the quality management system. Report on quality relevant key performance indicators to the leadership team on a regular basis. * Oversee the maintenance of document control, master lists, quality manual, and related databases. * Keep informed of new revisions and best practices for certification requirements. * Schedule, lead, and document management review meetings.
COMMUNICATION * Host and primary contact for auditors to ensure execution of the quality management system. * Communicate regularly with customers and engineers regarding product specifications and complete quality expectations including acceptable quality limits (AQL). * Conduct internal and external meetings and interface with customers. Travel to customer locations and meets with contacts, writes, and gives presentations as needed. * Coordinates and/or conducts regular supplier audits. Follows up on corrective actions as needed. * Communicates with all cross functional departments to align quality expectations, generate awareness for areas of improvement, and provides recognition for accomplishments. * Leads the communication on the disposition of non-conforming materials.
CORRECTIVE ACTION MANAGEMENT * Maintains the corrective action database for customers, internal use, audits, and supplier issues. * Drives customer complaint response system through corrective action. Lead and manage teams in problem discovery and solving of manufacturing issues using statistical and root cause analysis. * Provides completed corrective action reports. Tracks action items for follow up and reporting purposes.
INSPECTION * Manages and maintains the company's quality inspection and product release programs for incoming and in-process materials and components, processes, testing and finished goods. * Work with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements for external suppliers. * Analyzes statistical data along with product and print specifications to establish quality requirements of finished product. * Works with the engineer to conduct calibration activities to ensure conformance to requirements and to validate accuracy of testing equipment.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering, Quality or related field and five years of relevant work experience within the quality function is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least three years of prior supervisory and/or management experience required, experience in a food safe manufacturing environment preferred. Knowledge of molding, tooling, measuring, and manufacturing processes in the plastics industry is preferred. Green Belt preferred, Black Belt a plus. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, teach, and interpret technical procedures and blueprints. This individual must be able to write reports and business correspondence including ISO procedures. Ability to interpret ISO and SQF standards and verify written materials and practices comply with current ISO and SQF standards. Must possess the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as customers and suppliers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with basic statistical mathematical concepts. Familiar with business financial concepts such as profit versus margin. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percentages, draw and interpret graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in any situation. Have the ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists. OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES: Strong computer skills in a Windows based environment using spreadsheets, databases, and word processing. Strong organizational skills and the ability to focus on details is essential to this position. Character traits include maintaining a "professional image" through conduct, appearance, and behavior as well as possess a team-oriented philosophy. Strong attention to detail is needed. The ability to interact well with people; gain their trust and respect; to influence in a positive direction and motivate will be an asset to this position. This individual needs to be available to travel to customer and supplier locations as needed. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required the use of hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color tolerances, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position requires approximately 10% travel. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes and airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The noise level on the manufacturing floor is loud, hearing protection is required. The following personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be worn at all times when performing in this role while on the manufacturing floor: safety glasses and hearing protection. Food Safety protective equipment is required at all times while on the manufacturing floor: including hair nets, gloves and, if applicable, beard nets.
