Senior Cost Accountant
Manufacturing Finance | Direct Hire

Are you a hands-on manufacturing finance professional who enjoys digging into costs, improving processes, and partnering with operations to drive business performance?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Accountant to join a growing manufacturing organization where you'll play a key role in financial reporting, cost analysis, inventory management, and operational decision-making. In this highly visible role, you will help ensure financial accuracy, identify cost-saving opportunities, improve reporting processes, and provide critical insights that support business growth and profitability.


What You'll Do
Financial Reporting & Close Activities


  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities



  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules



  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger



  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives




Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Analysis


  • Analyze manufacturing costs including labor, materials, overhead, and burden rates



  • Monitor and report inventory valuation, work-in-process (WIP), and job costing activity



  • Investigate and explain manufacturing variances and cost trends



  • Develop recommendations to improve cost efficiency and profitability



  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to identify opportunities for process improvements




Inventory & Operational Finance


  • Support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs



  • Ensure accurate inventory accounting and valuation methodologies



  • Assist in developing standard costs and maintaining cost structures



  • Monitor inventory reserves and obsolescence reporting




Business Partnership & Continuous Improvement


  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Leadership teams to support strategic business initiatives



  • Develop KPIs, dashboards, and financial reporting tools to improve visibility into operational performance



  • Support internal and external audits and maintain compliance with company policies and controls



  • Drive process improvements that enhance efficiency, reporting accuracy, and financial performance




Qualifications
Required


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field



  • 5+ years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment



  • 3+ years of cost accounting experience



  • Strong understanding of:




    • Manufacturing accounting



    • Inventory valuation



    • Standard and actual costing



    • Job costing



    • Variance analysis



    • Financial reporting





  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling



  • Experience working with ERP systems




Preferred


  • Experience with Infor Visual ERP



  • CPA or CMA certification



  • Aerospace, defense, industrial manufacturing, or government contracting experience



  • Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a continuous improvement mindset
