Assumes overall responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of all plant activities. Plans, directs, coordinates and controls the activities of subordinate managers in meeting divisional production and quality objectives. Determines plant policies consistent with divisional and corporate policies and directs the application of such policies to the plant's manufacturing operations. Cooperate and works closely with all related areas to insure the continued success of the Bernhardt Corporation. To provide a safe and accident free work environment.
Organizational Relationships Accountable to the Director of Upholstery Manufacturing. When necessary, may seek direction and counsel from the Senior Vice President - Manufacturing. Maintains close contact with various divisional and corporate departments. Among these are Scheduling, Purchasing, Furniture Construction, Bill Out, Finishing, Quality Control, Engineering, Industrial Relations, Traffic and Sales. Gives assistance to other Plant Manager. Specific Responsibilities Plant Operation Directs and coordinates, through subordinate supervisory personnel, activities concerned with production of company products, utilizing knowledge of product technology, production methods and procedures, and capabilities of machines and equipment. Confers with corporate management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, develop budgets, establish cost controls, and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered. Plans and directs production activities and established production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors. Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of manpower, machines, and equipment. Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance (facility and equipment) and operational reports to determine causes of non-conformity with product specifications or operating or production problems. Upholstery plant managers develops standard cost information on all new products. Monitors and maintains this information on a regular basis. Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality. Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems. Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products. Directs and coordinates plant safety program. Confers with corporate and plant safety officers in insuring compliance with state and federal safety regulations. Recommends acquisition or disposal of machines or equipment in accordance with current and projected requirements. Reviews facilities and plant layout, considering present, projected, and forecast business and recommends changes. Reports all major problems to the division manager and submits recommendations and suggestions for corrective action. Researches new materials and recommends construction design and material specification improvements to Divisional Manufacturing Manager and related corporate personnel. Personnel Maintains close contact with subordinate supervision to render assistance, direction or advice in problem areas. Hires or delegates hiring of personnel for hourly positions. Selects personnel to fill higher-salaried vacancies. Evaluates subordinate manager and recommends candidates for other positions in the division. Approves changes in work assignments, promotions and raises. Renders assistance and give advice in situations requiring employee dismissal. Maintains plant morale by insuring fair treatment of all plant employees. Directs and coordinates EEO program at plant level to insure compliance with state and federal regulations. Works closely with corporate and plant personnel officers to eliminate discrimination and sexual harassment. Serves as grievance arbitrator at plant level. Develops and maintains a well trained and informed management team. Determines and develops a potential replacement for each subordinate manager. Assist Director of Upholstery Manufacturing on special projects. Renders assistance and advice to other divisional and corporate personnel. Maintains up to date knowledge on new methods and technology. Consults with and advises divisional manager on product line development. Authority The Plant Manager is authorized to take any reasonable action necessary to maintain effective plant operations. These actions must be in accordance with the Bernhardt Policy Manual and other established policies and practices; and subject to general or specific authority limitations as established by the Director of Upholstery Manufacturing. This authority is limited to providing recommendations in those areas involving capital expenditures, shipping schedule in design/material specifications. | |
