Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Propulsion Industrial Manager to join our Propulsion Procurement team based in Mobile, AL.

The Propulsion Industrial Manager (PIM), also known as the Podding Manager, serves as the primary Airbus focal point and strategic leader at nacelle supplier facilities and podding plants. The role is strictly accountable for overseeing industrial flow, change management, and planning securitization from the start of engine podding through delivery to the Final Assembly Line (FAL). By defining the Airbus inspection strategy per program and identifying value stream bottlenecks, the PIM proactively secures planning adherence to guarantee On-Time Delivery (OTD) and On-Quality Delivery (OQD). This role carries a cross program scope, hosting podding facilities for A320 but also future PQUAD South for A220.

  • The Procurement team's mission is to acquire indirect goods and services for Airbus commercial aircraft and helicopters, playing a major role in generating value and contributing to the overall competitiveness of the company. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Your Challenges:

  • Primary Responsibilities:

  • Management & Oversight Responsibilities (40%)

    • Supplier Focal Point: Acts as the main interface at nacelle supplier sites and in front of the FAL for Propulsion OTD and OQD.

    • Planning Adherence: Supports Airbus interests by ensuring podding suppliers strictly follow the propulsion delivery plan.

    • Escalation Management: Manages and escalates short-to-mid-term delivery issues occurring at the supplier level.

    • Non-Conformance Tracking: Drumbeats the closure of snags, such as Quality Inspection Discrepancy Sheets (QIDS), to ensure resolution before the system is delivered to the FAL.

    • Industrial Flow Stability: Monitors the stability of the nominal industrial flow for Power Plant System (PPS) delivery to the FAL, including inspections, documentation, and buy-off.

    • Industrial Change Monitoring: Supports the follow-up of major industrial changes and capacity assessments at the podding plant.

  • Operational & Quality (30%)

    • Inspection Strategy: Defines and maintains the Airbus inspection strategy for each specific aircraft program.

    • Production Readiness: Supports production readiness reviews, supplier steering committees, and escalation reviews.

    • Technical Analysis: Performs analysis of snag data, including Inspection Check-List (I2C) results, to identify quality trends.

    • Secondary Flow: Coordinates secondary flow management in conjunction with the Delivery Quality Manager (DQM).

    • FOD / Quality Prevention: Leads and supports Foreign Object Damage (FOD) and quality prevention initiatives on podding sites.

    • Free Issue Equipment (FIE): Secures primary and secondary flows of Free Issue Equipment to enable on-quality and on-time podding activities and parasitic operations.

    • Quality Investigation: Leads quality topic investigations through Practical Problem Solving methodologies.

    • Safety & Standards: Ensures all activities at supplier facilities comply with Airbus Quality Management Systems, Health/Safety standards, and POA rules.

    • Yearly Surveillance: Defines and executes yearly surveillance plans, including podding audits and Go-Look-See or Gemba walks.

  • Continuous Improvement & Support (20%)

    • Improvement Initiatives: Leads improvement initiatives and projects related to podding industrial activities.

    • Transnational Collaboration: Engages in collaboration with other PIMs across different programs and countries.

    • Program Alignment: Secures systematic read-across between programs and sites.

    • Bottleneck Eradication: Conducts Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to identify and eliminate industrial bottlenecks.

    • Recovery Planning: Leads short-term delivery follow-ups and supports supplier recovery plans or ramp-up action plans when necessary.

    • Process Optimization: Participates in improvement and standardization activities across various podding sites.

    • Reporting: Provides regular reporting on podding operational activities through weekly and monthly updates.

  • Additional Responsibilities (10%)

  • Education:

    • Required: Bachelor's Degree in aerospace or industrial engineering, supply chain management, logistics management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Experience:

    • Required: 8 -10 years of experience in aircraft propulsion systems and/or procurement related fields.

  • Qualified Skills:

  • Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

    • Knowledge of Industrial and Supply Chain Quality methodologies and processes

    • Ability to manage complex situations and navigate industrial crises.

    • Ability to work well in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural environment required and build/develop trustful relationships with team members, peers, stakeholders (including industrial partners)

    • Ability to lead problem resolution using a matrix organization and without direct management authority by using communication and interpersonal abilities required

    • Ability to coordinate the work of others with different technical skills and experiences required.

    • Ability to produce independent data, analysis, and reporting.

  • Communication Skills:

    • Required:

    • English at advanced level, French would be a plus.

    • Effective communication skills and the ability to handle communications and sometimes disputes between different functions/departments

    • Demonstrated capability to communicate complex issues and manage stakeholders at a senior management level, both internally within Airbus and externally with industrial partners.

    • Leadership management: Act with integrity, influence others, manage conflict, assertiveness, decide, speak up, build team spirit

  • Technical Systems Proficiency:

    • Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) proficiency at intermediate level is expected

    • Enterprise management software is required. SAP experience is preferred.

    • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

    • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

    • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.

    • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.

    • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

    • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor.

    • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.

    • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.

    • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site

    • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visit, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
