Moog Military Aircraft Group is looking for a Production Supervisor (Machine Shop Performance Leader) on 2nd Shift to have daily operational responsibility (delivery, quality, efficiency and budget) for a Value Stream in our Machine Shop for the 2nd shift. In this role, you will identify, implement and measure short and long-term team objectives; motivate and lead team members (approximately 18-20 Machinists); and coordinate with support groups to accomplish area objectives. You will also assist in identifying areas for lean and other improvement activities to achieve high impact results. Reporting to the Process Manager, you will havea 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off) and work on-site at our aerospace plant in Torrance, CA.

As a Performance Leader, you will...

  • Supervise a team of Machinists on the 2nd shift including hiring, training and development, talent management and performance management and improvement.

  • Identify, implement and measure short- and long-term team objectives which aligns with the overall organizational strategic plan; motivate and lead team members; and coordinate support groups to accomplish area objectives.

  • Work with the Process Manager to identify areas for lean and other improvement activities to achieve high impact results

  • Through execution of standard work to established processes, assure maximum utilization and efficiency of personnel and equipment to provide optimum productivity at the least possible cost to meet manufacturing schedules and delivery commitments.

  • Hire external talent and evaluate personnel within team for the purposes of performance management and talent growth and development. Manage all employee relations issues before they become major challenges. Responsible for employee counseling, discipline, and performance feedback. Responsible for creating team goals.

  • Maintain competent and effective work group by providing technical assistance and instruction, training, development, and motivation.

  • Ensure good housekeeping and safe working conditions within the area in order to provide acceptable working environment, limit job injuries and reduce lost time.

  • Ensure accurate employee time reporting.

  • Provide good organization/employee relations within areas by administering all personnel policies fairly and consistently.

  • Contribute to maximum utilization of equipment by comparing available workload against department capacity and where possible making decisions to effectively match load with capacity.

  • Recognizable and demonstrated leadership skills, exercise good judgment, be well organized and demonstrate excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal)

  • Ability to define and prioritize specific goals and objectives such as reducing inventory and shorten lead times

  • Ability to effectively build and maintain teamwork (both within departments and with supporting departments, suppliers and customers)

  • Ability to give machinist direction with technical background during a 2nd shift atmosphere

To be considered for the role, here's what you'll need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 6+ years of experience in manufacturing shop floor environment or Associate's degree with 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing shop floor environment

  • Blueprint reading (knowledge of GD&T)

  • Strong experience in a Machine Shop

  • Supervisory/Team Lead experience in a manufacturing shop floor environment

It'd be great if you also had:

  • Prefer that the Bachelor's Degree or the Associate's Degree is in Engineering or Business

  • Experience supervising CNC machinists

  • Experience running CNC machines

  • Gear Cutting Knowledge

  • Strongly prefer experience in the Aerospace industry

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Salary Range Transparency:

Torrance, CA $90,000.00-$120,000.00 Annually

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
