SRNL is looking for a Glass Scientist who possesses expertise in glass chemistry and the characterization of vitreous materials, with a strong understanding of chemical durability mechanisms and processing-property relationships at both the macro- and microscale levels.

This individual will contribute to the growth of a research platform focused on the development of advanced vitreous materials and processing technologies, driving innovation to deliver breakthrough performance capabilities that address a broad spectrum of industrial and U.S. government needs.

The candidate will be responsible for the safe execution, documentation, and interpretation of laboratory research and applied science experiments related to glass and hazardous material processing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of experimental and analytical characterization techniques, including Raman spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Working collaboratively with other SRNL researchers, the candidate will support the development of competitive research proposals in response to DOE and other funding opportunities.

Responsibilities will include leading and executing experimental studies to evaluate research hypotheses, documenting findings, interpreting data, and drawing scientifically sound conclusions. The candidate will also be expected to prepare internal and external technical reports and effectively communicate experimental results and recommendations to colleagues, stakeholders, and customers.


  • PhD + 2-4 years relevant glass chemistry and characterization of vitreous materials experience
  • Prior R&D Laboratory experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship
