Symetra is seeking a Senior Vice President, Head of Engineering to lead our enterprise engineering organization and play a pivotal role in advancing our technology and digital strategy.

Reporting to the CTO, this leader will oversee approximately 200 engineers across multiple domains and work closely with product, data, and business leaders to accelerate our digital transformation.

What You'll Do



  • Engineering Leadership
  • Lead and scale a high-performing engineering organization of ~200 engineers, including multiple VP-level leaders
  • Oversee engineering across key domains:
  • Digital Experience (customer and advisor platforms)
  • Enterprise Platforms
  • Data Engineering
  • Business-aligned engineering teams
  • Establish strong engineering standards, best practices, and delivery frameworks


Technology Strategy & Transformation



  • Partner with the CTO, COO, Product, and business leaders to execute enterprise technology strategy
  • Drive modernization across cloud infrastructure, platforms, and applications
  • Enable agility and innovation across the organization


Product & Business Partnership



  • Operate in a "two-in-a-box" model with Product leadership
  • Aligning engineering execution with business priorities and revenue goals
  • Deliver solutions that enhance customer, advisor, and partner experiences


Data & Platform Enablement



  • Partner with Data & AI leadership to strengthen data capabilities
  • Ensure platforms support advanced analytics, AI, and enterprise data strategy


Organization & Talent Development



  • Build and mature engineering talent, leadership pipelines, and culture
  • Foster an environment that attracts, develops, and retains top talent
  • Establish clear operating rhythms, accountability, and transparency


Executive Leadership



  • Serve as a key member of the technology leadership team
  • Contribute to enterprise strategy and engage with executive leadership and the Board


What We're Looking For



  • Proven experience leading large-scale engineering organizations (150+ employees)
  • Background in financial services, insurance, retirement, or related industries preferred
  • Experience working across both legacy and modern cloud-based environments
  • Demonstrated success leading digital transformation and modernization initiatives
