Position Description: Lead Business Unit (BU) Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) program. Partner with BU leadership, staff, and Headquarters (HQ) EH&S to enforce related company and EH&S policies and procedures. Dotted line managerial responsibility for project site safety professionals within business unit. Lead development of EH&S national programs as directed by HQ EH&S leadership Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:
- Execute Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures and enforce compliance with Business Unit (BU) and company requirements.
- Identify, eliminate, and control hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and/or property damage using safety standards, best management practices, and EH&S policies and programs.
- Lead development of EH&S national programs as directed by Headquarters (HQ) EH&S leadership. Drive solutions, progress, and participation of EH&S committees and initiatives.
- Lead, influence, and motivate teams and stakeholders while modeling highest standards of Turner's EH&S organization.
- Drive cultural change and continuous improvement of EH&S practices through development and execution of comprehensive EH&S program aligned with HQ EH&S policies and guidelines.
- Review Annual HQ EH&S Plan and goals to develop and align BU EH&S plan. Communicate with BU leadership and stakeholders to achieve or exceed plan expectations. Analyze and track plan results, identify opportunities, and define measures for continuous improvement, review changes with BU leadership.
- Initiate and build working relationships with OSHA, Environmental Protection Agency, and other regulatory agencies to promote Turner safety programs and manage regulatory exposures and OSHA citations to zero.
- Review audit requirements of other leadership within BU to ensure compliance with HQ EH&S requirements.
- Assess completion of audit schedules for BU project site teams and review consistency of audit completion and quality with BU leadership.
- Conduct audits using HQ EH&S approved systems and analyze trends, metrics, reports, and incident data; report progress to HQ EH&S and BU leadership and develop required program improvements.
- Stay informed on laws impacting EH&S for compliance with industry requirements and Federal, State, and Local regulations and influence and educate BU stakeholders to adopt updates to maintain standards. Communicate updates to HQ EH&S to determine impact to policy and procedures.
- Lead evaluation processes for BU EH&S performance and assess safety knowledge and performance throughout all job families.
- Evaluate needs for and recommend training throughout BU, recommend and follow-through on training to close knowledge gaps, and ensure alignment of skills with position requirements.
- Lead, mentor, and coach BU EH&S professionals to create inclusive environment.
- Represent Turner as industry leader, establish/accept leadership position and/or participate with high profile involvement, in local and regional industry related professional organizations.
- Manage and follow BU EH&S employee progress throughout project assignments.
- Lead by example to set expectations of professional development, continuous learning, and maintain required certifications.
- Develop and manage BU EH&S departmental budget and review with BU leadership.
- Negotiate business and subcontract agreements related to BU EH&S.
- Evaluate contractors through Subcontractor Approval Request (SAR) process and make recommendations to assist BU in risk mitigation.
- Participate in key business issues and opportunities of BU and company, as directed by HQ EH&S.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study, and minimum of 15 years of related construction safety experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) certification required or within 6 months of appointment
- Completed OSHA 30-hour training and maintain current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certification
- Extensive knowledge and application of safety and environmental principles and techniques
- Expert knowledge Federal, State, and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations
- Extensive experience in incident management and response
- Extensive business acumen
- Cross-functional knowledge of general construction operations
- Leadership and supervisory experience with ability to delegate, direct, and prioritize work of others
- Budget and resource management skills and experience
- Knowledge of change management to engage and impact teams
- Professional verbal and written communication skills and executive level presentation delivery skills
- Critical thinking, decisiveness, sound judgment, and complex problem-solving skills
- Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office suite of applications, and EH&S related applications
- Travel required, access to reliable transportation required

The annual salary range for candidates in the Chicago area is $200,000 - $247,000. The annual salary range for candidates in the Cleveland area is $167,000 - $213,000.
