What You Can Expect

The Power Congestion Director will lead ENGIE Energy Marketing North America's power congestion trading activities, with responsibility for strategy, market-making, risk management, and performance optimization across ISO/RTO congestion markets (with a primary focus on PJM and other relevant ISOs). This role combines senior trading leadership with hands-on deployment of fundamental, nodal-based strategies, ensuring alignment with ENGIE's trading best practices, risk governance, and zero-carbon objectives.

The position sits in Houston and reports to VP Trading Gas and Power

Trading & Market Leadership



  • Serve as the senior market-maker and subject-matter expert for power congestion markets, providing liquidity, insight, and market access to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the development, deployment, and optimization of nodal trading strategies using ISO congestion products across relevant time horizons.
  • Manage congestion trading risk within approved limits, ensuring disciplined risk management and compliance with ENGIE policies.
  • Communicate trading decisions, drivers, and performance clearly and timely to senior stakeholders.


Strategy, Analytics & Optimization



  • Develop and oversee a systematic, fundamentals-based analytics framework for congestion trading.
  • Identify and execute optimization opportunities across congestion portfolios, asset-related positions, and virtual markets.
  • Provide forward-looking market insights, scenario analyses, and performance benchmarking to support strategic decision-making.
  • Act as the central internal resource on ISO market rules, pricing dynamics, and network topology.


Cross Functional Collaboration



  • Partner closely with Power, Origination, Asset Management, and Structuring teams to support asset-backed strategies and deal flows.
  • Support asset managers with ISO fundamental views and congestion analyses.
  • Participate in ISO/RTO meetings and assess commercial, regulatory, and operational impacts for the broader organization.
  • Work collaboratively with back-office, credit, legal, and risk teams to ensure efficient, compliant execution and settlement.


Governance & Compliance



  • Ensure all trading activity is conducted in compliance with ISO/RTO protocols, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
  • Provide insights on regulatory and market structure changes impacting congestion products.
  • Maintain transparent documentation and audit-ready communication of strategies, risks, and outcomes.



What You'll Bring



  • Bachelor's degree in which you completed courses in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in power trading, including significant experience in congestion or nodal-based trading within PJM and/or other ISOs.
  • Deep understanding of power market fundamentals, transmission congestion, and network topology.
  • Proven ability to manage risk and deliver consistent performance in volatile market environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex analyses to senior stakeholders.
  • Prior leadership or mentorship experience within a trading or analytics desk.
  • Experience developing or enhancing systematic trading or analytics frameworks.
  • Familiarity with PLEXOS, Dayzer, or similar power market optimization tools.
  • Proficiency in Excel and ETRM systems
  • Ability to work autonomously while operating effectively in a matrixed organization.
  • Comfort managing multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy and limited oversight.
  • Willingness to engage in constructive dialogue and debate to drive better commercial outcomes.



Additional Details



  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy; 4 days in the office per week
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies;



Compensation

Salary Range: $176,900 - $271,170 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
