Job Description

PRODUCTION MANAGER - DETROIT, MI - LEAR ORION



As a member of the Operations Team, the Production Manager is responsible for maximizing operating efficiencies with minimal interruption by coordinating material movement, equipment operation, and workforce performance. This role ensures production meets customer specifications while continuously evaluating and improving operational effectiveness, cost efficiency, safety, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee internal audits of assigned operations to ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and IT to ensure automated equipment and control systems are production-ready, stable, and effectively supported in daily operations.
  • Determine and manage appropriate staffing levels to achieve productivity, efficiency, and cost objectives.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, efficiency, and quality.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-term organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Advise plant and senior leadership on operational enhancements, system improvements, and procedural changes.
  • Analyze operational and administrative systems and develop integrated performance reports to monitor effectiveness.
  • Research and implement best practices to achieve production goals and operating objectives.
  • Develop and draft proposals for new or revised strategic policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, internal teams, and external partners to support operational objectives.
  • Manage all production-related functions, from scheduling through shipment.
  • Establish departmental performance goals and ensure accountability.
  • Ensure full compliance with Safety, Quality, Company, and Regulatory directives.
  • Direct activities across safety, production, scheduling, materials handling, purchasing, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Review and manage performance evaluations for direct reports and oversee performance review processes plant-wide.
  • Conduct operational meetings focused on efficiency, quality, cost control, and production optimization.
  • Support the development of manufacturing processes and equipment for new product launches.
  • Approve requisitions and invoices related to operating materials and production needs.
  • Ensure production teams are trained, certified, and capable of safely operating automated and robotic systems; lead change management and workforce engagement in a unionized environment.
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Operations Management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in a Just-in-Time (JIT) production environment.
  • Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and computer skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Automation or High Performance Work Teams Experience
