Job Summary

Join our nursing laboratory and simulation team to support student learning through high-quality skills and simulation experiences. This position collaborates with faculty and the simulation team to coordinate, set up, and maintain laboratory and simulation environments. Responsibilities include preparing and managing equipment, supplies, and simulated materials; supporting scheduling and operational workflows; and ensuring functionality of simulation technology, including mannequins and related systems. Under the direction of the Assistant Chair and/or Simulation Coordinator, this role provides essential technical and logistical support for all lab and simulation activities and may be required to participate in simulation scenarios. Position may be required to intermittently provide lab/simulation support at the RM campus. This position does not evaluate student performance or learning outcomes.

Essential Functions

This position includes direct interaction with students in laboratory and simulation environments and provides technical and operational support that facilitates student learning. Responsibilities include assisting students with equipment use, reinforcing faculty-directed activities, and ensuring a safe and functional learning environment.

40% Monitors, maintains, and services laboratory and simulation equipment, technology, facility spaces, supplies, and computers used in instructional settings; ensures safety procedures are followed in all lab and simulation environments; coordinates equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and vendor services as needed.

20% Supports faculty and students during laboratory and simulation activities by preparing, setting up, and breaking down equipment, supplies, and instructional materials; provides direct, real-time technical assistance to students and faculty, including guidance on the proper use of simulation equipment, mannequins, and lab technology; reinforces faculty-directed skills by assisting with equipment use and lab processes; responds to routine information requests related to lab operations and technology. This position interacts directly with students but does not provide formal instruction of nursing content or evaluate student performance, as these responsibilities are reserved for licensed nursing faculty.

15% Maintains inventory of laboratory and simulation supplies, equipment, and storage areas; monitors usage levels and ensures availability of materials; assists with procurement processes, including researching products, preparing purchase requisitions, and coordinating with vendors.

15% Serves as simulation operator in collaboration with faculty; prepares simulation environments, equipment, and scenarios; assists with simulation delivery, including operation of simulation technology, role participation, props placement, and moulage setup; troubleshoots simulation equipment and ensures functionality during live scenarios.

10% Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of experience such as providing assistance to students in an instructional setting; and/or preparing, maintaining and delivering equipment, supplies or other related instructional materials used for laboratory activities in area of assignment.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

A. Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency, including the ability to navigate multiple systems simultaneously

B. Experience managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment

C. Experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining computers, simulation equipment, or related technology

D. Experience supporting or participating in healthcare simulation environments

E. Simulation certification such as Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) or the ability to obtain

F. Experience with healthcare simulation equipment, computerized mannequins, or clinical skills laboratories.

G. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years.

Special Working Conditions
  • Standard work schedule varies during the year: August through mid-May: Monday - Friday, 8 hour days; mid-May through the end of July: Monday - Thursday, 10 hour days
  • Required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor
  • May be required to intermittently support the RM campus with lab/simulation needs.
  • May be required to travel or be assigned to the RM location
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 pounds
  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
  • MCC does not sponsor individuals for work visas
